The United Nations General Assembly voted 43 to 0 with six abstentions to create a special commission for Korea. The panel, empowered to visit Korea and organize elections, aims to help Koreans form a representative government ahead of independence, but Russia will boycott and exclude it from the northern zone. A separate Jan 1, 1948 troop withdrawal proposal was rejected 34 to 7 with 16 abstentions.

Sergeant's Trailer Damaged In Rock Island Underpass Crash
A side swiping collision at the Rock Island underpass on highway 92 west of Washington damaged a trailer owned by Army Sergeant Mitchell H. Decker, who was traveling with his wife and young son when two soybean trucks driven by Lloyd Estes of Richland converged. The trailer was torn, furniture and groceries scattered over the road, no injuries reported, and the trailer left at the armory for insurance appraisal. the trailer valued about $5,000.
