Fireman Second Class Virgil Barrett of Council Bluffs, son of Mr and Mrs C E Barrett, was listed missing in a Navy casualty report this week. He explained he was sunbathing on the Wasp when torpedoed near the Solomon Islands. Barrett and others abandoned ship and floated three hours in life jackets before rescue by a destroyer crew.
