Iowa legislators at an extra session favor drastic tax relief over new agricultural laws. They argue cutting appropriations and trimming expenses would boost farmers, with calls to reduce freight rates and repeal parts of the Cummins-Esch clause to secure fair pricing and a square deal for producers.
Claude Carmichael 21 confessed to shooting his father C B Carmichael of Shenandoah and his mother after a quarrel over a note allegedly forged with the father's name. He was in custody in Clarinda as authorities reported.
W E D Stokes will not oppose his wife Helen Elwood Stokes separation action but will appeal the divorce denial. Attorney gainsburg says he will consent to separation but contest alimony and child custody. Mrs Stokes says she would not live with him and aims to block access orders.

Sioux Falls report says gasoline sold at sixteen cents a gallon under Governor McMaster’s order directing the state highway depot at Mitchell to match the price. Independent and Standard Oil outlets charged eighteen cents. Attorneys for independent dealers opened an investigation into the governor’s move.
Rev. Tom F. Campbell, Presbyterian pastor at Fairfield Iowa, has accepted the post of field secretary for the Iowa Christian Endeavor union with headquarters in Marshalltown succeeding Dwight M. Highee of Omaha. Campbell is noted as a boys worker and chautauqua speaker and serves as an officer in the National Bay City at Winona Lake Indiana.
Des Moines reports favorable drying weather aided corn husking last week though moldy chaffy ears and heating in cribs troubled farmers. Charles Reed of the Iowa Weather and Crop Service notes slow seed corn gathering in the north and east while winter wheat rye and pastures show strong growth aided by ample soil moisture and fall plowing easy.
National Father and Son Week opens statewide with church services lodge meetings luncheons and recreation programs. Governor Kendall issued a proclamation urging faith groups to unite for the effort with Dwight N. Governor Hunt and Sheriff Sullivan posted rewards totaling thousands of dollars for the arrest and conviction of Mia killer George Boudreau of Elkhart Indiana. Boudreau whose skull was crushed and body flung from a school roof in Phoenix occurred yesterday morning.
The American Royal Livestock Show starts November 17 in a $600,000 facility spanning over 10 acres. About 2,000 cattle will fill the car-lot section, with large entries of Herefords Short horns Angus and 150 milk Shorthorns. New this year are youth club exhibits and an interstate prize competition.
