City takes ownership of Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington Iowa
In district court Judge Harold J. Pleck ordered Elm Grove into receivership and transferred ownership to the city. Glenna Holden named receiver for perpetual care funds with LA Dunlap appointed as fund trustee. City officials say the cemetery will be operated as a city cemetery and Holden will handle day to day affairs. Attorneys Baldrige Stewart Kehoe Morrison donated services, aiding the two year action.

Farm Accident Injures 19 Year Old Tom Crossett
A 19 year old, Tom Crossett, was seriously injured when his clothing caught in an elevator shaft while unloading corn on his brother Duane’s farm southeast of Cotter. He was rushed to University Hospital Iowa City. later reports said he was in good condition after grafts. Crossett, son of Mr and Mrs Martial Crossett of near Brighton, had been living in Columbus Junction and helping on his day off.

Six Die In Iowa Weekend Traffic Toll Rises
A spate of three crashes within nine hours Friday night to Saturday morning caused six deaths. Iowa’s 1961 traffic toll reached 555 with the fatalities, plus a Clinton family crash near Goose Lake and other injuries across the state. One man from Delmar died in a Mount Carroll one car crash, while four Clinton family members perished in a head on collision with a cattle truck on Iowa 136.
