Garner farmer is convicted of selective service violation
Silvanus Wacker of Garner, a 600 acre farm owner, was found guilty by a jury of failing to report for induction last July 6. He claimed conscientious objection and said farm duties prevented service. Federal Judge John Delehant sentenced him to four years in prison and a $500 fine after noting his beliefs developed after an induction order. U S District Attorney T E Diamond said the religious scruples arose after the order.

Rural residents must register at the Junior high from 8 a m to 4 p m with Ethel McCreedy coordinating. Registration for trucks and equipment begins November 16 at the basement Courthouse rationing office, hours 8 30 a m to noon and 1 to 4 p m. Gasoline rationing begins December 1 at 12 01 a m with penalties after. Basic A bookholders receive a bonus as Nov 22 and 30 coupons remain in books. Extra volunteers are being sought for the rationing office.

Jailbreakers to Be Returned to Iowa

Fort Dodge Youth Killed in Motorcycle Crash
Vernon W. Droege age 19 of Fort Dodge died when his motorcycle collided head on with a car driven by Alfred Redenius of Britt southeast of Lakota. Droege suffered a broken neck and leg among other injuries. Redenius and his passengers Robert and John Penning of Buffalo Center were only slightly bruised.
