Troop Buildup in Washington for Possible Disorder

A force of 9,000 Army and Marine troops began moving into Washington to handle potential disorders during this weekend's antiwar demonstrations. Lt. Gen. Julian Ewell warned that cease-fires aid the enemy, noting higher casualties in defensive postures. Leak delays Apollo 12 moon mission at Cape Kennedy

An apparent leak in the insulating vacuum of a hydrogen tank on Apollo 12 threatens to push back America's second moon landing. Astronauts Charles Conrad Jr Richard F Gordon and Alan L Bean were set for a 11 22 a m EST launch but a source warned the mission may slip to December.

Compromise allows antiwar march toward White House

Washington officials reach a pact with New Mobe to permit a march up to 70,000 to pass one block from the White House via Pennsylvania Avenue in exchange for a pledge of nonviolence. The route runs from Capitol Mall to 15th Street then south to the Washington Monument for a 2 PM rally. 2,000 marshals will guard the street and 500 more protect buildings.

UN votes show China split as Peking fails to displace Nationalists

United Nations General Assembly backed Nationalist China 56 to 48 with 21 abstentions in the election to seat Peking. Indonesia Kuwait Equatorial Guinea did not vote, while Albania and Algeria backed the Communists. The key question of two thirds for seating remains undecided and the Soviet Union did not address the debate.

Immanuel Lutheran to Open Day Care Center in Keokuk IA

A new day care center at Immanuel Lutheran Church Washington County CAP will operate from 6 30 a m to 6 p m starting Monday Nov 17 for three and four year olds from low income families to enable mothers to work or train. The center plans to serve up to 15 enrollees with after school access for older children and relies on volunteer help and donations of equipment and supplies.
