New federal wage law could hit Iowa schools hard
Iowa City leaders and university presidents told the Board of Regents that the new federal wage-hour act will require substantial payroll increases. Howard Bowen said UI would need about 2 million dollars yearly. Iowa State and the State College of Iowa warned that lifting all wages to 1.40 an hour in February and 1.65 later would cost millions. Presidents Maucker Parks and Bowen urged considering broader raises to maintain pay equity, noting budgets for 1967 had not yet planned for the higher minimum.

Conesville Man Held in Bank Robbery Case
Lyle Ernest Tompkins, 45, of Conesville, was held in Scott County jail on federal armed bank robbery charges for the Winfield National Bank holdup. FBI and state agencies traced the suspect to Muscatine, with a $25,000 bond set and court appearance scheduled. About $2,000 was taken at approximately 12 45 p.m. Wednesday.

State's toll scars three killed on Iowa roads
A Grundy County youth, Robert Gray, 19, Marshalltown, died when his car left the road and burned after a drive. Two others died in a five car crash on US 65 near Mason City.
