Convicts Seize Sheriff and Deputy at Paulina Farmhouse

Two escaped Fort Leavenworth prisoners captured Sheriff Cook and Deputy Williams near Paulina Kansas and used Mrs Wooster and the sheriff as shields during a several hour standoff before escaping armed civilians pursued and police reinforced the area. The fugitives remained at large.

Convicts Escape After Raid On Wooster Farm

In Topeka Chief Stahl with eight officers enlarged a siege of the Wooster farm but the convicts refused to surrender. Farmer Wooster was struck and wounded, Mrs Wooster fainted, and Sheriff Cook was used as a shield as the escape began. The convicts fled along the railroad track into a hedge, immunity from arrest granted by Sheriff Cook preventing pursuit.
