Viet Cong commandos struck Ban Me Thuot airfield 157 miles northeast of Saigon. They destroyed three trucks with bazooka rockets and launched mortars that hit six huts and a bunker, wounding eight Americans. One attacker was killed. Eight rescued when Missouri River boat capsizes near Sioux City
Eight members of two Sioux City families, including four children, were saved after their small power boat overturned on the Missouri River as the Delta Ann towboat passed on its maiden voyage. Laura and Lisa Lewis were trapped beneath the hull for ten minutes and resuscitated. All eight were taken to a Sioux City hospital. Laura and Lisa were listed in fair condition.

The University of Iowa art school director Frank Seiberling was elected president of the Midwest College Arts Conference for a one year term at a three day meeting. Officers include Raymond Gloeckler as vice president with treasurer Frank Horlbeck and Jane Hutchison as secretary. The 1969 meeting drew about 500 attendees and the group set next gathering for October 1970 at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
