Des Moines reports show B. F. Carroll leading Porter by about 16 424 votes with 104 202 to 87 778 and all Republican congressmen elected except Grill who lost to Pepper. The Anti saloon League continues to push for a constitutional convention with a temperance focus and a prohibitory amendment.
Special to The Evening Journal reports strong likelihood of Colonel D J Palmer’s re election to the railroad commissioners and the election of Clifford Thorne with solid majorities. Haugen’s victory is not in doubt and the Fourth district remains Republican. The Iowa legislature is expected to be largely Republican and constitutional prohibition may be headed for passage.
Haugen leads Fourth by about 100 votes while Democrats concede by 50. Kendall wins in his county by 1 200 and Poweshiek by 500. Kennedy nets about 2 300 in First. Pickett sweeps Third except Bremer and Dubuque. Goods, Prouty, Turner, Smith, Woods and Hubbard win with sizable pluralities in multiple districts.
In Anderson Indiana a street car struck the coal wagon driven by Jack Burge causing severe injuries and hospital treatment for broken bones. The wagon was demolished. In New York Earl Davidson of Detroit waited ten hours for aid after a broken leg left him dazed from exposure before admission to Lebanon hospital.
In Delagua Colorado 35 miners were killed and nine rescued after an explosion at Victor American Fuel No 3. Engineer Willis Evans helped save four miners but died from suffocation after giving his oxygen helmet to survivors. Rescue efforts found him unconscious and unable to reach the surface. The incident occurred at mine No. 3 in Delagua.
A man died from injuries after an explosion blamed on a fire that started at a broken entry door during salvage efforts. The fire was extinguished and investigators continue to determine the exact cause and sequence of events surrounding the incident.
Burt Haid a 33 year old conductor from Wawaka Indiana on the Goshen Kendallville line was fatally injured when his train struck an overhead bridge in Goshen Indiana. He fell head first and was found beside the rail by the engineer.
Hiram W. Johnson secured election as governor of California, winning the Republican nomination and garnering decisive support from state party ranks. The result consolidates Johnson’s leadership as the state’s executive chief.
President Taft travels with a security detail toward Charleston and Panama aboard a special section of the southbound train. Accompanied by Charles Taft and aides, the group is due to reach Colon Monday afternoon and plan to return to Charleston for a Thanksgiving visit in Washington.

Newton Weat aged 63 years fell from a buggy along the Indianapolis and Cincinnati traction line in Shelbyville. His skull was fractured and he is expected to die from injuries.
