Prairie Flower Baptist Church names new pastor Rev Paul Lobb
The Prairie Flower Baptist Church eight miles northwest of Washington has called Reverend Paul Lobb of Unionville Iowa to be its pastor. He will deliver his first sermon on Sunday December 31. Lobb has led Unionville Baptist Church for nine years and will relocate with his wife Edwina and their family. The church averages about 120 attendees and is affiliated with the Iowa Association of Regular Baptist Churches.

Washington Community Schools Board discusses 1973 74 budget
The board reviewed the tentative 1973 74 budget due December 1 under House File 654 with a per pupil growth cap of 48 and a base cost of 988 including growth. Enrolment of 2175 yields a 1972 73 ceiling of 2 148 900 while current under spend of 13 903 from 1971 72 plus planned cuts of about 74 000 remain to be allocated. Resignations were accepted for Jane Lewis Phil Rusley Ada Hahn. The board heard from L W Robison at the Iowa Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly and reviewed student survey results on church activities. They approved attending the IASB convention, hiring Helen Birney as Stewart School cook, and a Jr High Math Curriculum change.
