Petition filed for school reorganization plan vote
An official petition for a new school reorganization plan involving the Ainsworth and Crawfordsville districts and neighbors has been filed with the county superintendent. The plan would include Oregon, Ainsworth, Crawfordsville, Pleasant Ridge, and about 70 percent of Highland districts. The steering committee includes John Hamill Richard Dare Robert W. Miller Larry Trotter Bryce Lord and Merle Colton. The brochure cites a plan valued at 5 881 186 with 490 students 137 in high school and 353 in grade school. Superintendent Bode cannot yet set a hearing date but must within ten days of filing and will coordinate with the Louisa County Board of Education due to cross-county portions.

Services Set for Mrs Jesse Bennett in Columbus Junction
Funeral services are planned for 82 year old Mrs Jesse Bennett at 1 30 pm Wednesday at Stacy Funeral Home Columbus Junction with Rev Samuel Bowser officiating. Burial will follow in Indian Creek Cemetery. Mrs Bennett of Fredonia died Monday at Muscatine General Hospital after breaking her hip in a fall October 29. Clara Mae Abney was born April 19 1878 in Quincy Illinois. She married Jesse L Bennett on May 7 1898. Survivors include husband son Clifford H Bennett of Columbus Junction three grandchildren and sister Mrs Jane Mitchell of Davenport.

The unit maintains vehicles and small arms for Southeast Iowa reserve units and plans to move to a new training center on North Marion Avenue next spring. Vacancies exist and enlistments for six months active duty are being accepted for men with no prior service.
