VPANMUNJOM Korea United Nations officers said the Communists demanded a prompt cease fire line to bar UN advances and delay a formal armistice. Brig Gen William Nuckols stated the UN would not accept a de facto halt without essential conditions including prisoner of war arrangements.
Melvin Eugene Hewitt a 27 year old Navy veteran from El Monte Calif revived after 15 minutes without a heartbeat. He regained consciousness at Long Beach veterans hospital and showed movement in his legs and ability to count fingers though he recalled nothing of his life before the incident.
Judge R G Yoder ordered fines totaling 2800 against John W Griffin and Homer B Pfeifer in district court for OMVI. He also recommended suspension of both defendants drivers licenses.
Weather for Des Moines Iowa shows partly cloudy skies with light snow in the far east this afternoon. Tonight and Wednesday remain partly cloudy with a mild drop in temperature and warmer days ahead. Police report an armed bandit robbed the Aetna Finance Company in Des Moines yesterday. The slender man in a gray hat and brown topcoat escaped with $1,958.50 after forcing R W Hyde to open the cash drawer and deposit box. Manager Louis Fox and others were in the office during the ten minute robbery. a prior 30 month robbery had seen a woman employee shot but no money taken.
Churchill told Parliament Britain will fight if needed to keep a presence in the Suez canal area and to repair losses in Iran. He urged strong hands for world crisis management and hinted at a Big Four conference with Stalin and Truman.
On Wednesday November 4 the Chinese Red Army surged through UN lines in the Yannchon sector, seizing a hill after three days of heavy fighting that left thousands killed or wounded. Funeral services for Charles G Dodd were held at 2 o clock Monday afternoon in Sherman s funeral home with Rev BE CG Lone fellow in charge. Pallbearers were John Ryan Edgar Porter John Bidwell Frank Godfrey Carl Hancher and William Ziegler. Burial was in Elm Grove cemetery.

Alpha Club celebrates its 50th anniversary with nearly 40 members and guests at Mrs. E. J. Hessel Schwerdt’s home. Officers Leona Fastman Lois Yoder and Ruth Decker led the event with committees on programs refreshments and history. The group formed in 1901 with 18 members and has supported library activities Mother Daughter events child health clinics and Christmas vesper services.
Open house programs will mark American Education Week in Washington public schools announced today by Superintendent M. M. Schell. The high school event is Monday November 12 followed by grade schools Tuesday evening November 13 and a junior high potluck supper and program on November 19. Further details will be announced later.
Robert Wayne Boyd was fined for blocking a driveway and bound over to the grand jury. Elmer Thomas LeVera was bound over on breaking jail. Larry H. Thornton and Walter L. McDonel paid fines for speeding, and Charles Crone received 10 days jail with eight days suspended for intoxication.
