Bilas M. Weaver longtime Iowa Supreme Court member died at his Iowa Falls home at age 79 after a week long illness. Funeral services set for Friday at 2:30 pm in Iowa Falls with remarks by Justice Truman Stevens. Governor Kendall to fill vacancy. Weaver was pivotal in 1884 85 prohibition vote and served as chief justice in 1907 1913.

Twelve Bodies Recovered After West Virginia Mine Explosion
Twelve bodies have been taken from the Raleigh Wyoming coal mine at Grea Rogers Wyoming county after an explosion. Sixty five men were in the mine. twenty three were brought out uninjured. Officials say thirty men remain inside with little hope. The Mines Department reported at noon.
