Early returns show Republicans leading with about 201 seats to 170 for Democrats including Pasquists elected from Pittsburgh Allegheny. Doubtful districts remain in Tennessee California with results pending official returns to decide.
In November 1902 partial returns show Putnam and Noble counties not heard from yet. Putnam gave a Democratic plurality of 1451, Noble a Republican plurality of 751. Garber predicts Ohio Republican plurality around 90107 statewide. Democrats claim gains in two thirds of counties.
Chicago election news shows Republicans leading in Illinois with Fred Busse winning Cook County by about 12 000 and the ticket majority near 73 000. L egislature expected Republican control with 32 on joint ballot and Lorimer defeating Madden in congressional race.
Columbus November 6 Chairman Dick of the Republican state headquarters reports complete returns from eighty six of eighty eight Ohio counties showing a Republican plurality for state candidates.
Des Moines Iowa returns indicate Fuller tious Junerple leads the state ticket with about 70 000 votes. P B Bird sall appears to win the Third district by 5205 while M J Wede in the Second district secures the sole LD Democratic representative by 1140.
New York voters processed revised state returns indicate Odell leading by about 10 708 as partial districts report and several counties finalize tallies Republican gains cut into Democratic margins in attorney general and court of appeals races while the state senate and assembly shift toward Republicans in the early estimates.
Election returns show Bliss with 47 414 votes and Durand 14 650, Bliss ahead by 52 764. Wayne county favors Durand by about 10 000. Detroit Mayor Maybury beats Carstens by 2 695. Alfred Lucking leads in the First district by 8 525 with 11 precincts pending.
Milwaukee reports delayed returns show Governor La Follette with about a 50 000 plurality. Next legislature expected to be 75 Republicans and 25 Democrats in the Assembly, 31 Republicans and 2 Democrats in the Senate. Mayor Rose concedes defeat and calls it a Republican year.
Lincoln November 6 informs that complete and partial returns from sufficient counties forecast Mickey the Republican as Nebraska governor with a margin between 3 000 and 5 000 votes. The report notes the rest of the Republican state ticket remains to be seen.
The ad claims sideache back ache and other pains stem from a diseased womanly condition and that curing this condition cures the aches. A testimonial from Miss Annie Stephens praises the medicine and mentions the accompanying Golden Medical Discovery. The ad offers The People’s Common Sense Medical Adviser free with stamps for mailing.
The Republican state committee reports Mickey leading by a narrow margin. Pasioniete doubts results but concedes some chance. Republicans win in Fifet Fourth and Sindh districts, Pasionists elect Hitchcock in the Second. Third and Fifth are unsettled. Republicans may hold twenty eight of thirty three senators and seventy of one hundred house seats.
The Republican state committee claims 100 of 150 Indiana legislature seats and a large Senate majority. In Minnesota Governor Van Sant expected to win by 50 000 to 75 000 with nine Republicans in the House and one Democrat. Delaware legislature shows 10 Republicans to 7 Democrats in the Senate and 18 to 1 in the House with a joint 28 23 split. Eight Republicans oppose Addicks for U S Senate promising deadlock next session.
San Francisco results show George Pardee leading for governor by about 2000 to 8000 votes with Republicans gaining a U S Senate on joint ballot. New Jersey sees Democratic gains but Republicans win ten congressmen and hold both legislative chambers. Kansas reports a complete Republican victory with large legislative and statewide wins and about a 35000 plurality for the ticket.
Boston reports a heavy vote in Massachusetts with the state ticket leaning Republican as results unfold. Early returns indicate a strong showing for GOP candidates across key statewide races and local contests amid a high turnout.
Complete state and city returns indicate Democrats gain governorship and lieutenant governorship while expanding across cities. Republicans retain a strong senate majority as Democrats win scattered congressional seats, with Iowa delivering a Democratic congressman for the first time in eight years and a modest Socialist showing in Maryland.
Dallas reports Garner Democrat carries Fifteenth district by a 1500 majority amid GOP fears. Latest advices indicate strong Democratic support in the district.
In Phoenix on November 6 the contest for a congressional delegate in Arizona is unresolved with both major parties likely to finish under a 300 vote margin.
In Zanata Fe New Mexico on November 6 Bernard o Rodey is elected congress delegate by a 5400 vote majority over H. H. BKB. Wergasen Clom. and becomes the region’s representative in Washington.
Miss May Me Reynolds ran away to Terre Haute with Thomas Vaughn a former Mattoon resident. They traveled to Chicago where they wed. Vaughn earlier courted Miss Reynolds in Mattoon prompting family to bar him from the house and later move to Indianapolis.
The Chicago and Northwestern passenger train leaving Chicago at 5 20 p m collided with a freight train at Crystal Lake. Fireman Lewis Walsh of Elgin died from injuries while engineer H H Sargent of Crystal Lake was badly hurt. A tramp who was riding the freight received a crushed arm.
Chicago markets show hog receipts about 29 000 with mixed to heavy trades at 4.90 to 6.75 per cwt and bulk around 6.40 to 6.60. Cattle receipts 17 000 with ranges from 4.20 to 7.75 for various classes including fed westerns and stockers. Sheep and lambs 20 000 with western and native lamb values from 2.00 to 5.60. East Buffalo reports 6 car cattle and 40 hogs steady to higher with hogs around 6.35 to 6.60. Milwaukee grain mixed with wheat at 1 northern 7 3 4 to 7 2 cents, rye 51 to 51 1 2, corn December 42 to 44 1 2. Toledo grain notes dull grain markets with cash wheat 72 1 2 to 72 3 4 cents.
The anthracite commission completed a six day tour of the Panther Creek valley and Mount Carmel region. Commissioners inspected Potts colliery and Maple Tile colliery and gathered miners grievances and company perspectives. They plan testimony days at Beranton on Nov 14 before resuming hearings on the mine dispute.
The commissioners toured the Maple Hill and No 6 collieries visiting the Panther Creek valley and Coaldale about 100 feet underground. They faced damp conditions from water streams as they rode mine cars and climbed chutes while hearing workers complaints of job discrimination and scarce work. In Richards Missouri a bank vault was dynamited, 1500 dollars stolen, shots fired into a crowd. Stevens Point people plan asbestos mining to revive the region as a market center.
President Roosevelt headlined a Bennett centenary celebration by the Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He arrived by train, delivered the welcome address, and joined ceremonies at Mason temple before returning to Washington. Accompanied by Mrs Roosevelt and children, he left Philadelphia after delays due to late arrivals and staff movements.
Faribault Minn Nov 6 The Bishop Whipple Memorial Tower dedication at the Cathedral of Our Merciful Savior was conducted Tuesday afternoon by Bishop Samuel Fidsall. Hundreds attended while about 1000 contributors funded the tower including the archbishop of Canterbury and York bishops and notable donors such as President Cleveland and Secretary Hay. The chimes were donated by Mrs Whipple in memory of her husband and contributions came from Eatonville Indians and Sioux and Chippewa communities.
Coroner Seho ler opens inquiry after an explosion in Madison Square during election night. Twelve killed and seventy four injured as ten men are jailed on neglect charges and Jim Dimundie is sought. Dozens were hurt amid chaotic scenes with improvised safety failures and mass panic.
