Morrell Bain told police a thief stole 11 dollars in cash a 50 dollar wrist watch and some clothing from his car. Albert Keager residing with his family near Kanawha was shot in the left lung when a .22 pistol accidentally discharged in a basement and was taken to a Mason City hospital.
Clarinda High School announces the Cardinal Yearbook produced by the graduating class last year placed third in a national contest conducted by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association of Columbia University New York.
Ottumwa reports George O'Brien and Fred Caster were held for intoxication and disorderly conduct with mischievous destruction of property after being ejected from a night club at midnight. A stone then struck the club door glass. the men deny throwing it.
Ames home economics teachers elected new officers. Miss Edna Kraft of Melvin will be adviser, Ethel Pennington of Tipton secretary, Virginia Ivie of Shenandoah president, Edith Boardman of Cedar Rapids vice president.
In Ottumwa a man set a match near a gas pipe at Sunny Slope Sanatorium causing fumes to ignite after disconnections. Firefighters arrived and suppressed the blaze without using the siren to avoid disturbing patients. no injuries or damage were reported.
Clayton Murphy of Cornelia Bluffs warned about a six million strong fifth column pledged to overthrow the government. The former naval officer and seventh Iowa district VFW commander spoke before about 150 attendees at a joint VFW banquet with their wives.
DES MOINES The Iowa State Teachers association convention will feature a lavish pageant titled On Our Way presented Thursday and Friday at Shrine auditorium. The Des Moines public schools sponsor the production with a cast of 800 teachers and students, an orchestra of 100 pieces and a chorus of 100 voices.
Bruce Taylor, a new plumber with Eveready Plumbing and heating, and his wife with three children have moved to Washington to reside at 1005 South Iowa Avenue in the Clapp residence. He previously worked for Ivan Norton of Eveready about seven years ago and ran his own shop in Leon, Iowa, before moving to Ottumwa for the past year. He is a Masonic member and a worthy patron of the Ottumwa Eastern Star.
Greek armed forces backed by Britain reported new successes on land and sea. Air raids hit Naples while Greek ships, aided by the Royal Navy, engaged Italian units off Corfu and possibly sank a fascist vessel. Mountain troops halted the Italian push in Albania as about 1,200 Italian prisoners were taken.
Des Moines reports a record potential turnout of 1 250 000 as Republicans and Democrats race to influence voters. Governor Wilson and challenger Valentine urge all eligible Iowans to vote, with predictions of wide margins trailed by late rallies and radio appeals from Verne Marshall and state party leaders.
James Ball of Des Moines aged 22, a conscientious objector to mandatory training, posted a $100 bond after federal grand jury indictment in Davenport for refusing to register for selective service. His case is set for federal court in Des Moines starting November 26. maximum penalty is a $10,000 fine and ten years imprisonment. He had worked on an NYA project when he refused and was later discharged.
Fifteen years after constructing a new school building, the Marens public school district has cleared all obligations. They recently issued final payment of thirty eight thousand dollars ending outstanding bonds.

A two car crash on Highway 81 north of the Highway 82 junction left J A Waters of Kinross and Armor Adams of Wellman injured. In Adams car were Paul Butterbaugh Bernice Goodwin and Donald Butterbaugh all bruised. Damages estimated 75 to Waters car and 175 to Adams car.
Thousands witness a torchlight parade in Washington with about 200 participants led by the Washington high school band. Signs favor the Republican party as Willkie film reels draw a large evening crowd in Central Park. Marion Timmins.
Weather may affect turnout as voters prepare for a broad general election in Washington county. Polls will operate 8 am to 8 pm with locations unchanged from the last primary. County auditor Ethel Wilson printed 16 120 ballots. 36 absent voters so far, up 117 from 1928.

Mrs. Rachel E Earll 65 wife of Frank Fordl died Saturday night after a stroke. Funeral conducted by Rev Vernon H Carter at the Christian church with burial in Elm Grove cemetery. She leaves husband nine children grandchildren two sisters and other relatives. Burial pallbearers named.
Harold Shank of near Red Oak fell twice in one day. A stick pierced his tonsil during the first fall and a later fall left a gash on his head.
Mr and Mrs James Griggs were yesterday afternoon visitors at the Edgar Porter home. The casual call reflected friendly neighborhood social ties and local family connections.
Twenty six passengers rode an eastbound Burlington Trailways bus when driver Jack Powell of Moline steered into a ditch to avoid a car blocking the turn onto a side road. Passengers had minor injuries, driver hip dislocation and torn ligaments, treated at Washington County Hospital. The bus escaped major damage.
