Romney delays 1968 bid announcement after CBS asks
Gov George Romney of Michigan said he will decide whether to seek the 1968 Republican presidential nomination. He cancelled an earlier Nov 15 nationwide TV announcement after CBS asked to know by today if he would announce. Romney will hold a news conference in Lansing or Detroit at 11 a.m. and said he has not yet made up his mind. Mid-Prairie approves bonds for new schools
Voters in the Mid-Prairie Community School District approved a 1,185,000 bond issue in a special election held Thursday. The funds will finance a new Kalona junior high, an addition to Wellman high school, and a Kalona elementary addition. Of 1,458 ballots, 961 voted yes and 497 no, a 65.9 percent approval well above the 60 percent legal threshold. Officials say facilities will be ready after about 2 years, with six months for design and 18 months for construction. This was the district’s first bond vote on the proposal.
