Marion Fulton 68 of Stillwater Ohio died Sunday in Oklahoma. Her body will be brought here for services and burial. Sherman’s funeral home handles arrangements. Mr Fulton was born in Washington son of Mr and Mrs James R B Fulton.
The United Nations General Assembly opens its fourth week as Korea related motions are expected for tally after the U S presidential election. Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Vishinsky may speak to the political committee outlining Russia's openness to middle road moves.
Lt Charles Robert Bright 28 of Columbus Junction died Friday night at Indigan Army hospital Taoma Washington after polio illness en route from Korea service. He left Columbus Junction Oct 17 after furlough with wife Kathryn Dwinell and four children. Bright served in World War II and is survived by his mother, sister, and five children. Funeral services are pending.
Fair conditions in Des Moines with warmer air moving in. Tonight low 25 to 32 south east, 32 to 36 northwest. Tuesday high in the 60s with southwest winds 20 to 25 mph. Wednesday fair to partly cloudy and mild.
New York pollsters forecast a neck and neck presidential contest between Eisenhower and Stevenson. Gallup data suggest Eisenhower leads the popular vote in late interviews, while Roper notes Stevenson gaining but avoids a firm prediction.
Eisenhower and Senator Nixon head to Boston for a final campaign push. They will speak at the Boston Garden in a late evening rally and then join a nationwide hour long radio television program carried by major networks to 1000 radios and 100 TV stations.
Funeral services for Delbert C. McDole were held this morning at St James Church with Rev R J Kinnavey in charge. Burial followed in Kim Grove cemetery. Pallbearers included Charles Griffin Clarence Griffin Forrest Henry Harry Hesseltine William Patterson and Raymond Miller. Sherman's Funeral Home directed arrangements.
The YWCA Public Affairs committee begins final phases of a Get out the Vote effort with Lincoln Stewart and St James students distributing tags reading My Folks Wil Vote. Parents voting Tuesday will collect My Folks Voted tags at polls and return them to school for tabulation.
Iowa governors Beardsley and Loveless prepare final radio appeals before Tuesday’s vote. Beardsley speaks at 9 p.m. from WHO. Loveless at 8:15 p.m. from KRNT. Voter turnout is expected to surge beyond 1940’s record 1,215,569, with national interest in Eisenhower versus Stevenson.

John Strain Sr. of East Madison Street died at 6 15 this morning at the Adam Nursing Home where he and his wife had been cared for about a month. Funeral services are set for 2 pm Wednesday at Sherman’s Funeral Home with Rev. Maney in charge. Burial will be in Crawfordsville Cemetery. He was born August 7 1865 in Crawfordsville. married Jennie Holmes on December 7 1893. Survivors include his wife son Harlan B Strain of Detroit Mich two grandchildren three great grandchildren one brother Charles and a sister Mrs May Cowan Seattle Wash. One son preceded him in death.
Chinese Reds repelled three South Korean attempts to seize Triangle and Jane Russell hills on the West Central Front. South Koreans advanced within 50 yards of the peaks each time but withdrew under accurate Chinese mortar fire. United Nations artillery briefly obscured Kumhwa Valley but failed to break Communist resistance.
Cloyce Snider observes his first business anniversary at the Electric Motor Shop opened a year ago at the Farmer's Store. He has expanded services to repair and service all electric motors and now sells a line of new motors.
Washingtons Community Chest drive ends near 28,500 as Keith Vetter, campaign chairman, credits workers and donors for the success. Julius Kunik praises the Chest and Vetter's committee while noting some households to be contacted. Indications suggest the total may surpass the goal slightly.
Governor Adlai Stevenson wraps up his presidential bid with a television radio appeal urging renewed negotiations backed by military strength to end the Korean War. He plans a Chicago broadcast at 9:20 to 10 p m est sharing time with Truman Barkley and Sparkman and warns Eisenhower could trigger World War II by inaction. Stevenson will vote Tuesday in Illinois before returning to Springfield to await the verdict of the American people.
Mrs. Christine Redling a native of Luebeck Germany died at her home southeast of Brighton Saturday afternoon around 4 o clock after five years illness. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 yelock at the Hoskins funeral home with Rev Mans Meyer in charge at Hope Lutheran church Germanville burial in the local cemetery. Born June 14 1876 in Germany she came to the United States as a young girl and married Edmund Redling December 18 1900 at Beaver Dam Wisconsin. Survivors are one daughter Mrs Marie Wright of Chaquo, three sons Harold Carl and Edmund of Austin Minnesota, eleven grandchildren and one great grandson.
Two break-ins were reported in Crawfordsville Saturday night with items stolen from the railroad section tool house and from Home Lumber Company. A crowbar pried the lumber firm door and a not locked safe was found by Lloyd De Harper when arriving Sunday morning.
Richard Knupp of the Knupp farm north of Ainsworth was injured when his hand became entangled in a corn picker this morning. He was treated at Washington County Hospital with the extent of injuries not yet confirmed. The incident occurred on the Knupp farm as he stopped the machine after the accident. Earlier in history the first commercial telephone exchange opened in New Haven, Connecticut, on January 28, 1878.
United Press reports the 1952 campaign closes with a large expected turnout around 55 million. Eisenhower leads straw polls while Stevenson gains. final broadcasts from Boston and Chicago set to shape a volatile, close election as Thurmond backs Eisenhower.
VFW members announce a TV watch gathering at the WEFW hall on Tuesday night November 4 to view election returns. All members families and the public are invited to attend.
Washington county voters are expected to go to the polls in record numbers Tuesday though local issues are few. One county board contest pits Everett J. Swift against Charles E. Ashby. two county bond issues seek 15000 for home repairs and 50000 for courthouse improvements.
Dwight Bramon a conservation officer in Washington county arrested Levi Kauffman of the Wellman community Sunday and charged him with hunting pheasants out of season. He was fined $25 and costs by Mayor Wade at Wellman.
In Columbus Ohio guards fired on inmates at the Ohio State Penitentiary killing one convict and wounding three as 2 520 prisoners sparked a Friday riot and fire destroying six cells. Governor Lausche ordered police and guards to use all means to keep prisoners confined and off catwalks.
Washington relatives rushed to Ottumwa on learning of the death of 17 year old Duane Glassburner son of Earl Glassburner of Ottumwa due to an automobile crash. He was a nephew of Elsie and William Glassburner of Washington and a grandson of Mrs. Etta Glassburner of Washington. He and his siblings were raised by their grandmothers after their mother's death years ago. Details of the accident were unavailable.
A car driven by Wilbur Westen of Washington was demolished at the railroad crossing on North Marion Avenue at 12:80 o clock. Westen escaped injury. Sheriff Charles Snyder had not reached the driver for a first hand report. Weston apparently failed to notice the switch engine and caboose as he approached the crossing from the south. The caboose, pushed by the switch engine, struck the car front end, swinging it between tracks and crushing it against box cars on a siding.
Edward Morgan a former FBI attorney and Hoover aide charged Senator Joseph R McCarthy with using forged documents in a Se speech Morgan called McCarthy the voice of Fascism during a Milwaukee TV appearance.
