County Farmers Injured In Corn Picker Accidents
Two Washington county farmers were injured during corn husking as machinery operated. Alvin Jones 83 of Crawfordsville lost parts of three fingers on his right hand while Bernard Bean 16 of Ainsworth sustained a severe elbow wound and arm injuries. Both were treated at Washington county hospital after incidents Thursday involving a tractor mounted picker.

Highway Commission Blamed For Accident Near Marshalltown
A six member coroner s jury held the state highway commission negligently causing the crash that killed Mrs Evelyn Meiers seven miles southwest of Marshalltown on highway 64 at the 349 intersection. The verdict said the highway condition was the actual cause and that no steps were taken to reduce the danger. Emil Meiers her husband an air force master sergeant survived the collision with a semi truck. The case followed a Wednesday night crash that disrupted traffic during the holiday period.
