Curtis Harper eight year old son of Mr and Mrs Ora Harper was burned while rescuing his pet calf and a cow from a burning barn on his father s farm near Waterloo Iowa He suffered severe burns on his face and hands The barn machinery and hay were destroyed with losses estimated at one hundred dollars
Iowa Senator George A. Wilson says he is feeling fine after an operation at a Rochester hospital. He plans to return to Washington D C soon after a brief visit home to Des Moines. The Cedar Rapids feature discusses Norman Rockwell's pre election cover portraying local voters and officials.
Clarinda residents voted 1 327 to 1 327 against establishing a municipal light and power plant in a 550 000 dollar project after a heated campaign between proponents and the Power and Light Co. The result ends the bid for a self liquidating plant to serve the city.
District Judge Ralph W. Hasner sentenced James Ryan and John Smith both Webster City truck drivers and John Constable a Fort Dodge bellboy to one year in the Anamosa state reformatory. Bonds of 10000 each were filed Wednesday for Des Moines men Clyde Lyons 40 and Merton Lyons 45 charged with assault with intent to kill farmer Howard Knight 68 near Winmersburg Iowa during a pheasant hunting trip. Attorney Ted Sloane said bonds will go to Palo Alto County court where the men were moved Tuesday. The Lyons brothers and four other hunters were part of a six man party. the others were released after questioning.
Stanley Pro chaska of Humboldt was sentenced by District Judge G W Stillman to an indeterminate term not to exceed 30 years in the state penitentiary. He was found guilty last week of shooting his wife Helen 41 on April 4. She recovered and is living with relatives at Gilmore City.

Everett Eugene Young, 18, ship's cook third class, was killed in action in the southwest Pacific. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Young of eight miles southwest of Washington, he enlisted in June 1943 after turning 17, trained at Farragut Idaho, and joined his ship on September 16 that year. Born on a farm east of Washington, he lived in the economy before joining the navy and was a member of the Presbyterian church of Washington. He leaves six sisters and four brothers Charlotte Nela Sylvia Wanda Patricia Viola Kenneth Arto Keith and James Austin.
A late yesterday afternoon trash heap behind the Martin cleaning establishment caught fire. Firemen extinguished it with a chemical agent after quick action to prevent spread.
