Davenport police opened an inquiry to identify the vandals who smashed plate glass windows in six business houses. Estimated damage totals about $1,000.
Oakley Cross, 24, Chelsea, received a 10 year sentence to Anamosa reformatory after pleading guilty to using a smoking pipe as a prop in a hold up of Bertha Racere. In Denison, George W. Harker, a local businessman, sustained flesh wounds in both legs when a gun at the Denison Gun Club discharged accidentally while he stood 25 feet away.
Audubon Carl Petersen, a Landon backer, bets on the Roosevelt win. He promises to buy his democratic girlfriend a 10 pound box of chocolates if Roosevelt wins. If Landon wins, she must buy the box herself and finish it within 24 hours.
Fire crews from Eagle Grove and Clarion battled a large blaze at Chapman Lumber company yard and offices. Damage was estimated at 50 000 dollars and the flames once threatened nearby Iowa Public Service and Municipal Water Softener plants.
Des Moines reports 10 year old Dan Rainwater recovering at home after surgery to remove the tip of an automatic pencil from his lung. He is improving steadily, doctors say, and is the son of Mr and Mrs R M Rainwater.
Former sailors and marines from across Iowa gathered at Marshalltown Memorial Coliseum for the 4th annual dog watch. Over 200 attended the event, the county’s only organization uniting ex service members from marine divisions of the national defense.

Coroner L. Rigcert said Donald Voltz, 26, cried at his baby's grave in Clinton and then drank poison, dying an hour later. Police said he phoned his separated wife and urged her to join him at the graveside. she declined to accompany him.
An alley passes through the middle of the Memorial Union and extends south through the reserve library tennis courts along the east bank of the Iowa River. The streets have never been officially recorded as vacated by the city.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 30 today for William Edward Zook 89 who died Sunday morning at his home in Crawfordsville The service was at L A Jones funeral home with Rev W J Stevens of the Foursquare tabernacle officiating Burial followed at Beauchamp cemetery near Wyman He was born November 3 1847 in Westmoreland County Pa and came to Crawfordsville as a boy He lived in the area until moving to Washington in 1918 He was married in 1866 to Catherine Orbin who died in 1922 Surviving are three daughters Mrs Sarah Chance Mrs Hettie Arnold and Mrs Lydia Dawson and one son Leo Zook a son John preceded him in death He was a member of the

Ten people were injured in two fog bound crashes on Iowa county highways early Sunday. The worst crash near Washington on road No 2 left Ray Hutt with a broken leg and chest injuries while Marshall Koehler suffered hip injuries. Ruby Brouillette and Roland Rabenold also were hurt. A second collision near the junction of roads 2 and 161 involved Mrs Blanche Sommers and Glen Yoder with injuries including a badly sprained wrist and cuts to children Irene Everett and Anna.
Merrill Loosbourrow aged 16 of Jerome Iowa was shot with twelve shotgun slugs to face and hands during a Halloween prank. George Anderson faces assault charges for firing into the air to scare away the boy and others from his home.

Congress man Edward C. Eicher told a Washington county rally at city hall that President Roosevelt will be re elected on election day by a greater majority than four years ago. The event closed the democratic campaign with a parade led by the Municipal band and a large crowd despite some rain. Dr. O F Boller presided as postmaster M C DeLong and others assisted. Mrs. Alex Miller spoke on highway safety and the state patrol.
Funeral services for Ralph Bert Stafford are planned for ten o'clock Wednesday at the Pilotburg Methodist church followed by burial in Pilotburg cemetery. He died Saturday night at Mt. Pleasant after a four year illness. He was a prominent farmer born March 11, 1875 near Armington Illinois and lived in Wellman 39 years. He married Maude Turnipseed Dee in 1900 and Olive Turnipseed in 1907. Survived by wife of Washington one son Charles L. Stafford of Los Angeles a daughter Clara B E Gilbert of Wellman twin brother Ray Stafford of Bloomington Ill two sisters Winnie Stoner Dayton Iowa and Ida Neese Fresno California with three sisters and one brother deceased and four grandchildren.
W R Mount 88, a Virginia born pioneer who settled in Fairfield and later Washington, died at Washington county hospital after a stroke last Wednesday. Funeral arrangements paused for relatives, with services planned from his home by L A Jones funeral home under Dr F W Eastwood. Interment at Woodland cemetery.
