Three Crew Members Stricken by Fumes On Government Cutter

During a practice run in Narragansett Bay the crew of the government marine cutter Qeto suffered exposure to fumes from a volatile substance inside the boat. Three men were carried to the sick bay at the naval torpedo station for treatment but all recovered shortly after.

Fire Destroys Farm House and Windmill Near Owosso

A log house and a windmill on Charles King’s Owosso area farm burned. King warned his wife who raced to the loft with water as flames spread. a roof hole allowed the fire to catch her hair and hands, but her husband saved her by extinguishing the burning clothes.

Robbers Slay Victim in Portland Indiana Shop Attack

In Portland Indiana Nev 2 a 18 year old David Carney was shot by an unknown assailant after two masked men demanded tobacco. As Carney turned for the tobacco the taller robber fired a pistol striking him through the chest. The assailants escaped.
