VP Humphrey Tours Vietnam as Bombing Rages Across North
In a high profile trip, Vice President Humphrey witnessed U S aerial assault over Hanoi and the Mu Gia Pass while U S spokesmen report heavy bombing and fighting across North and South Vietnam. They said 1 353 Communists were killed in four months and 7 Americans died with 21 wounded in a Loc Ninh clash. Humphrey called the Viet Cong attempt to seize the Loc Ninh district capital a die hard effort defeated amid heavy losses. He flew over battle zones on a three day visit tied to the inauguration of South Vietnam's new government. U S jets targeted bridges trains and road networks despite poor weather as B 52s pounded routes from the Mu Gia Pass toward South Vietnam. Mid-Prairie school district voters will go to the polls Thursday in a special election on a proposed 1,185,000 bond. If approved 60 percent, funds will finance additions to Kalona elementary and Wellman high schools and a new Kalona junior high. Polls open noon to 7 p.m. at West Chester, Wellman, Kalona town halls and the Washington Township elementary.

Mop-wielding clerk fends off bandit in Des Moines

Warn children of dynamite caps in Davenport schools
Police in Davenport continue a search after more than 100 dynamite blasting caps were found with students at Garfield Grade School and St Pauls School. Officers warned the caps can explode from a drop and cause death or serious injury. Thirty-one caps were collected at Garfield and forty-one were found in a parking lot in the north part of town.

Congress lingers over Johnsons last 20 bills

LA Porte Indiana United Press International two men who fled authorities for four days were captured today as police continued searching for 27000 of 83783 dollars stolen from a bank where two officers were killed. They stayed with two women including a strip dancer in a summer cottage near Upper Fish Lake stockpiled with food water and weapons. One fugitive Henry Gargano 35 was wounded in an exchange of fire and shouted I am weak. Clifton Daniels 29 surrendered. Gargano received surgery and remains under guard at a hospital.

Halloween Tragedies Mark Trick or Treat Night
Children across multiple states faced deadly incidents on Halloween night.
