Edwin R Kos 63 of 1004 North Seventh Avenue died Sunday October 31 1965 at Washington County Hospital after several months illness He was born October 7 1902 in Johnson County and married May 1 1937 to Branch Havel They farmed near Washington before moving to the city He worked for Washington Concrete Co and sold insurance for Mutual Fire and Automobile Insurance Co Kos was active in Western Bohemian Fraternal Lodge Cedar Rapids and the Moose Lodge Iowa City He is survived by son Leonard Edwin Kos of Marion two granddaughters Mychelle and Laura Kos a brother Frank Kos of Washington and sisters Dorothy Fountain Iowa City Leona Kos and Helen Boyer Washington Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm at Jones Funeral Home with burial at Riverside.

Klan funds questioned as Newberry testifies
Congressional investigators described a Georgia Ku Klux Klan leader depositing a personal check shortly after a similar withdrawal from Klan assets. James Newberry, treasurer of the Georgia Klan, invoked the Fifth Amendment as he was asked if funds were moved from Klan accounts to his personal one. The testimony detailed a April 1 check for 1642.11 drawn on Calvin F. Craig and Newberry and endorsed by Newberry, with a deposit later recorded in his personal account. The panel pressed for disclosures on purpose and knowledge among Klan leaders and members.
