Des Moines reports vast interest in the November election with focus on national tickets. The piece lists Iowa state offices including governor lieutenant governor secretary of state and attorney general and names the Republican and Democratic candidates along with minor party contenders.
Chester F. Wallace, 42, was shot through the heart and killed in Sioux City early this morning by an unknown assailant. His brother witnessed the affray but cannot relate details. In Alogona on Nov 1 reports say two banks in Fenton Iowa were robbed early today. The Farmers Savings Bank and Frenton State Bank vaults were wrecked and cash totaling 2500 dollars plus 5000 dollars in liberty bonds taken. Robbers used two automobiles and cut most telephone wires to Frenton. Citizens were alarmed but warned by bandits not to interfere. Trash clues remain elusive.
A moderate earthquake was logged on the Georgetown University seismograph. It began at 12 02 a m and lasted until 1 00 a m with peak between 12 14 and 12 17. The event occurred about 100 miles from Washington.
John Witthoft of Washington county sold 18 western branded Herefords at the Chicago market on October 29, averaging 1,413 pounds. The shipment brought $14.75 per hundredweight, reflecting strong demand for heavy cattle, though the price did not fully reflect the consignment's quality.
Richard O Hara a driver from Communipaw New Jersey walked into a New York police station and claimed to have driven the wagon used in the Wall Street explosion. He told officers at Bellevue Hospital he was conscience stricken and wished to make a clean breast of it while being treated for alcoholic poisoning.
H. S. Busby returns from a business trip through southern Minnesota and northern Iowa noting poorer crop conditions than his home section. He says potatoes are fine yet priced at 14 to 16 cents a bushel and corn ranges 3 to 7 dollars per acre, while wheat and oats were good in that area.
The funeral service for Joseph Rowan will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Ainsworth United Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. Roberts assisted by Rev. Moore of the Ainsworth Methodist church. Burial will be in Ainsworth cemetery.

Keokuk officers joined Hancock county Illinois authorities in a raid on an island a quarter mile from the Illinois shore of the river across from Keokuk. They seized three barrels of mash and fifteen gallons of moonshine whiskey, capturing five men and locking them in Carthage for arraignment.
