Robertsons rebuild home after 1970 fire in Iowa City
After a November 1970 blaze gutted the Robertson home at 825 South 4th the family chose to reconstruct inside the existing shell. They preserved the exterior with a rebuilt interior, moving the entrance, closing the front porch, enlarging the kitchen and master bedroom while keeping the floor plan largely the same to preserve a sense of home for the children. Local family members and contractors assisted in clearing debris and restoring the house to a Southwestern style mood rooted in its original mood and memories.

Robertson Home Rebuilt After Fire Brings Deck and Shutters
The Robertson family restored their gutted house with a new deck behind the family room and easy care rough hewn siding. Antiques and primitives fill the rooms with artwork everywhere, while shutters replace drapes for low maintenance. The reconstruction began in May 1971 and finished that September, four years ago, leaving the home now comfortably settled.
