Memorial Day in New York featured a grand military parade reviewed by Governor Odell and Mayor Van Wyck. Wu-Ting-Frang spoke at Grant's Tomb, and the Hall of Fame dedication at New York University drew Senator Depew.
A New York commemorative event featured a parade with the Old Guard to Governor Odell, U.S. regulars, militia, marines, and G A R posts. General Frederick D. Grant attended with his wife and accepted an invitation to speak to Grant Post of Brooklyn. Wu Ting-fang laid flowers on Grant's tomb and delivered an address. The Hall of Fame ceremony opened with a prayer by Rev. Hullis, with Chauncey M. Depew delivering the oration.
Across the nation Memorial Day honors are paid with graves decorated and parades. In Chicago Governor Yates led a march while other cities from Washington to San Francisco hold ceremonies and dedications. Andersonville记 fountain dedication in Americus unveils memorial at Providence spring by National Commander James Atwell.
The inscription marks a fountain dedicated Memorial Day 1901 by the National Association of Union ex Prisoners of War honoring 52345 Union POWs and 13000 who died, with remains buried in the adjacent national cemetery. Speakers included James Atwell and 8 H M Long.
A rowboat with eight Philadelphians from Elm Social club capsized at Flat Rock dam in the Schuylkill river. Seven died, including Florence Densmore Roy Ricker Mazie Kennedy Maud Rutter Mamie Sullivan Florence Bond and Bertram Osmond. Only John Moore survived. Police report a twelve foot plunge and swift current.
Reports from Cedar Rapids indicate the president and cabinet discussed supreme court opinions on insular cases and the potential for an extra congressional session. If the De Lima ruling extends to the Philippines duties, refunds and free entry could follow, prompting moves toward an insular tax law and possible July extra session for a free trade resolution.

The eighty first session of the general convention of the New Church of the Jerusalem Swedenborgian and its auxiliary bodies met in New York yesterday. General George Augustus Stone, aged 68, former Civil War veteran and Iowa national bank examiner since 1884, died at Burlington hospital. The American Theosophical Society convention at Chicago has adjourned.
In Des Moines and Philadelphia the United Presbyterian general assembly debated barring secret orders from church membership and questioned allowing labor unions. Heated remarks warned that excluding such groups could cause broader church trouble as the assembly adjourned after nearly two weeks of sessions.
May 20 in Tineolu Neb the National Dankard conference opened with talks on church law including divorce. Brethren study Congressional enactments but oppose changing rules. The session declined to grant sisters the same conference privileges as brothers. Doctrinal discussions dominated proceedings.

Des Moines reports the Iowa Supreme Court sustains usurious interest contracts by building and loan associations dating before the 1908 curative act. The ruling says vested rights existed and can be protected, keeping up to 12 percent interest on pre act contracts.
At a Berlin luncheon after a Guards brigade review, Emperor William praised the China settlement and thanked Count von Waldersee for his work. He toasted two French officers and lauded Franco German cooperation, with Major General Bonnat and Lt Col Gallet receiving special honors. General Bonnat rode with the Kaiser as the color company passed.

Fire at the residence of Rev. I T Osborne two miles north of Hailey Idaho claims the lives of Mrs Osborne and her young son. Osborne was in Shoshone conducting religious services at the time. Admiral Sampson declares he will not retire before reaching the age limit. Lieutenant Sweet to head secret service in the Philippines per report. General Fred Grant leaves Chicago for undisclosed duties.
