Iowa House approves county official pay hike with local control
The Iowa House voted 95 to 4 to raise salaries for elected county officers for the first time since 1969, including a 10 percent boost for county supervisors. A key amendment by Rep. Donald Doyle would replace the state pay scale with a five member compensation commission to set salaries after 1975, shifting control to local officials and drawing rural opposition. The plan could cost Iowans about $2.2 million and would apply to officials such as auditors, treasurers, clerks, sheriffs, recorders, and county attorneys.
