No. 1 Paving Contract Awarded for Washington
The William Horrabin Contracting Company of Iowa City won the No 1 paving contract for primary highway No 1 in Washington. The $22 368 99 concrete project runs about six tenths of a mile north from the North Second Avenue underpass to Marion Avenue, with grading to begin soon and completion expected early this summer. Leslie Meicher of the state highway commission confirmed the award. W Price from the highway board’s traffic and safety department will visit Washington next week to consider routing No 1 and No 4 via South Secondary Avenue from the city hall to Madison Street instead of current business streets.

Painters Injured in Fall Off Scaffold
A ladder supporting a painters scaffold broke yesterday afternoon on East Main Street at the RL E Shannon residence. Floyd Tucker and Jug Beaman fell about 20 feet. Tucker sustained bruises. Beaman suffered neck and back injuries and was taken to the county hospital for X rays.

Iowa Fishermen Drowned After Leech Lake Boat Fire
