More than 100 boys and girls competed in the Izaak Walton league event southwest of Washington. After 2000 bullheads were stocked, anglers faced tougher fishing as fish fed heavily on tadpoles. Prizes went to Pat McGill Elaine Sturgis Carol Smith in girls and Richard Palmer Bill Cram Paul R. Smith John Peterson Tom Horak Gary Doak James Wells Dennis Godfrey Craig Waddell in various boy divisions. Free ice cream and pop topped the event.

Mrs. Keith Barnes of Brighton Iowa is named one of six Iowa farm women selected for the 1951 master farm homemaking award. The group will attend a Des Moines luncheon with former winners and families. Barnes, a former teacher, runs a 240 acre farm with her husband and two sons active in 4-H. She leads church youth work and farm bureau roles and holds several club memberships.

Washington Youth Freed in Epicurean Auto Theft Case
Duane Gray, one of four Washington youths held for the theft of articles from cars at the Epicurean restaurant Saturday night, has been freed and charges dropped. The other three youths remain in Louisa county custody and have been bound over to the grand jury under $1,000 bond.

Union Bible School Opens June 4 at Lincoln School
Union Bible School will open June 4 in the Lincoln school building at 9 o’clock in the morning. Sessions run Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 o’clock between June 4 and 15. The program is sponsored by the Washington Ministerial Association with Christian, Associate Presbyterian, United Presbyterian, Presbyterian, Evangelical and Reformed, and Methodist churches participating. Barn Loss Destroys Tipton Farm Landmark
Fire destroyed a large barn on the D. H. Tipton farm 14 miles northwest of Washington in the Lexington area. The 75 year old landmark barn and 1,500 bushels of corn in the crib were lost. Firemen and neighbors saved other buildings. The farm is operated by James Patterson with a hired hand on site.

Fanny Brice Dies After Cerebral Hemorrhage in California
Fanny Brice, famed stage film and radio comedienne creator of Baby Snooks and known for My Man, died at Cedars of Lebanon hospital in Los Angeles at 59. She suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and had been in a coma since Friday, ending a career spanning the Ziegfeld Follies era to television.
