The Washington Municipal Band directed by Milburn McKay will perform a 30 minute Memorial Day concert in Washington Central Park at 9 a.m. on May 30, preceding parades at 9:30 and 10 a.m. The program includes Imperial, Columbia, Last Rest, Oh How I Hate To Get Up In The Morning, Marines Hymn, Over There, A Rookie Joins the Army, Religioso, and The Star Spangled Banner.

Washington County Truck Pull Opens Sunday at Fairgrounds
Plans for the four wheel drive truck pull at the Washington County fairgrounds on Sunday June 5 are on schedule with gates opening at noon and the event starting at 2 p.m. A $2 admission charge applies with free entry for children under 10. Sponsored by the Washington County Fair Association the sanctioned event offers $1,625 in prize money across five classes under the 1977 Tri-State Truck Pullers Association rules. The Kiwanis Club will run a food stand and the Washington County Shriners will operate popcorn and snow cones in the afternoon.

Cleveland woman dies in Decorah shooting case
In Decorah Iowa police speculated the gunshot wound that killed Janice Parker 23 of Cleveland was probably personal safety related. Parker was found around 1130 p.m. Thursday in the motel room she resided in and died shortly after 2 a.m. today at a hospital in La Crosse Wisconsin.

Narrow escape for bicyclist
Washington youth Anthony Hamilton aged 10 narrowly avoided serious injury when his bicycle was struck while crossing South Second by a car driven by Mike Weller 17. Hamilton was treated and released at Washington County Hospital with bruises and abrasions. No charges filed. A trucker’s quick action prevented a worse crash when Louise E. Jones 21 left from Highway 218 onto G-62 and entangled with John E. Thrailkill 47. The collision caused minor damage. Thrailkill was charged with failure to have control.
