Des Moines Iowa veteran lawmaker Floyd Millen, House Republican floor leader, says Iowa is moving toward replacing citizen legislators with professional politicians. He voices fear that the citizen legislative ideal is fading as politics becomes a full time career.
A South Dakota man in his early 20s was listed in fair condition at University Hospitals Iowa City after a 16 foot fall from the English River Pellets Inc mill Sunday. He fractured both wrists and a leg while sanding and painting exterior work and was transported by Washington County Ambulance.
Washington residents and county students aged at least 8 by July 25 1975 must register for the Red Cross learn to swim sessions at the Washington Municipal pool. Registration ends Monday June 9 and must be done at the Red Cross office or by mailing the coupon. no pool registrations.
United Press International reports at least five deaths by drowning across Iowa over the Memorial Day weekend. Victims include Arlene Ford, 32, Tipton, found in the Cedar River near Bettendorf, with authorities ruling out foul play. Another drowning occurred Sunday at George Wyth Memorial State Park as David Parmely, 22, Waterloo, failed to reach shore while swimming with companions.
In Farmington Iowa a park custodian Stanley Hendricks remained in fair condition after a beating during a Sunday night disturbance at Indian Lake Park. About 25 teenagers were involved in the incident around 11 p.m. Two other youths from Keokuk Jeffrey Warner 18 and Jerry Jenkins 16 were treated and released for injuries.
Secretary of State Henry Kissinger outlined a $1 trillion program to aid oil consuming nations, proposing commissions to study production regulation, and a shift toward interdependence. He urged four million barrels a day cut in imports by 1977 end and up to $1 trillion by 1985 for new energy sources and nuclear power.
President Ford will address the nation to claim progress on energy policy amid congressional stalemate and announce a $1 per barrel rise on imported crude starting June 1. The tariff could lift gasoline prices about 1.5 cents a gallon as Kissinger touts joint energy efforts among 18 nations.

Six youths led by Craig Dare of Crawfordsville paddled 175 miles from Ames to near here over 81 hours on the Skunk River during Memorial Day weekend. They rented ISU canoes, endured few bugs and rain, and faced a logjam clearance near Ollie that aided their journey. Dare and Eric Pankoke predicted not attempting another trip until at least next year.
Lori Shalla won the top prize for money earned in the American Lung Association Walk-a-thon held May 10, taking $165.20 and a watch from Osincups. Peggy Williams finished second with $80.50 and a Coast to Coast transistor radio. Christine Chalupa won a bicycle in the drawing, with trophies awarded to St. James for largest student participation and to the Junior High School 7th grade.
