Iowa Senate backs highway fund revenue split in 1973 measure
Iowa Senate Republicans push a $30 million revenue bill to end a stalemate. The plan keeps $15 million annually from auto accessory sales in the highway fund for road repairs, with the 1974 balance potentially routing to the general fund for tax relief. Democrats oppose moving funds.

Iowa lawmakers push policy change on street closings by road commission
Two Iowa House members introduced a resolution to force the Iowa Highway Commission to change its policy barring street closures for local celebrations. The measure orders the agency not to appeal a district court ruling that invalidated the policy and to amend rules on closing highways within city limits, citing a Moulton festival dispute. The policy had prohibited closing streets for celebrations, a stance challenged after the court found it invalid. Joseph Coupal, highway director, had threatened an appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court.
