Memorial Day events in Washington on Monday May 29 include a 8 am flag raising at the post office led by Dick Davidson, a 8 30 am Navy service at the Crooked Creek bridge, a 9 00 am Central Park concert by the Municipal Band, and a 10 am parade organized by Kenneth Davidson. Veterans and children are invited to march. DAR, VFW, American Legion and others will honor graves at Woodlawn and Elm Grove cemeteries with services led by Rev Tom Pace and Howard Altenbernd.

Iowa Guards to provide emergency helicopter ambulances
Gov. Robert D. Ray authorized the Iowa National Guard to deploy emergency helicopters over Memorial Day for three areas. Helicopters will be on alert at Broadlawns in Des Moines Mercy in Davenport and Allen Memorial in Waterloo to evacuate severely injured from crashes.
