Sergeant Ray Lyon Liberated From German Prison Camp
Mrs. Leo Allbaugh received a message that her brother Sergeant Ray Lyon was released by the Russians from Stalag 3B on April 22. Lyon was captured in Tunisia on March 20, 1943 and had been imprisoned in Germany. the note said he is in good health and expects to be home soon.

Naval Memorial Service Planned for Memorial Day
Alvin Rommell announces the annual service to honor navy dead at the Creek Bridge on Brighton road southwest of town. Attendees meet at city hall at 8 30 am and proceed to the site with Kenneth Carris giving a talk, Clayece Stewart offering prayer, a wreath toss, taps by Jess Radda, and a firing squad color guard. Archie Euwer, WWI navy veteran, helped found the service in Washington. Transportation is available from city hall for those needing a ride.

Four or five Washington churches will run simultaneous two week vacation Bible schools starting two weeks from next Monday. The Methodist, artist, United Presbyterian and Christian churches begin June 11 with forenoon classes and an afternoon recreation program at Lingela school grounds and swimming at the Y pool. The Presbyterian plan mirrors the schedule despite no pastor. The Timminatel Lutheran will hold sessions May 26 to June 28 with forenoon classes.

Mrs. Charlotte Lins of 732 East Jefferson Street was notified and the letter from her husband said he was well and safe after the bombing raid in which his plane took part.
