Senator Cummins of Iowa urged the adoption of the corn belt relief bill in the senate telling that government aid is needed to lift farm prices and value. He rejected claims the measure fixes prices and argued price variation will occur without export surplus removal.
Senator Cummins argues the corn belt bill would not put the government in business and compares its powers to federal regulators ruling that such authority is modest beside interstate commerce controls. He says the bill would not permanently take treasury money, instead advancing funds to be repaid from producers fees. He notes past subsidies via tariffs railroads and a government merchant fleet as context for subsidy concerns.

Reports from Akyab say a severe cyclone in Burma has caused considerable loss of life and extensive property damage. The cyclone destroyed law courts and most government buildings and cut telegraph communication.
Official observer reports yesterday reached 92 degrees, the day before 94. Today's high not yet available but forecast suggests higher readings this afternoon. Rain remains a pressing need in the hour.

Officials say he suffered a nervous shock and was moved to a sanitarium. Others interned with the cabinet are moved to Vilna on unspecified charges. Treasury bonds totaling 80,000,000 zlotys issued.
A dinner for a Washington tennis club will start at 6 15 PM tomorrow evening due to the Izaak Walton League meeting at the YMCA. The change moves the event earlier from the originally planned seven o'clock start.
George Gibson of Thayer Idaho was convicted in Creston Iowa of first degree murder in the March shooting of Sheriff Fred Collings. The jury recommended life imprisonment with sentencing to follow a new trial motion.
Abd El Krim the Riffian chief announced to surrender to French lines at Fez Morocco. He released French Spanish and native prisoners and will be moved to Taza under protection of France as directed by Resident General Jules Steeg.

Sparks flew as Dry and Wet factions clashed over constitutionality and state rights, with calls for order and a national referendum surfacing during the exchanges.
The North Baptist convention voted to table an amendment requiring immersion as a prerequisite for church membership. Modernists supported the motion to table, built on a Seattle convention proposal defining Baptists as only immersed members, while a compromise left local associations to decide who is a Baptist and kept delegates from unimmersed persons.
Mrs. L L Jenks aged 38 or 39 and mother of one died after a furnace explosion triggered by burning rubbish with gasoline. The blast severely burned her from hips to face as her husband rushed to help. she was a Lasmoni resident and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Retz.

June July and August meetings are suspended with sessions once monthly. A joint meeting with Ottumwa is planned and reports on Cedar Rapids state convention were given. The international Y's Men convention is set for New Jersey the first week of September.
A Will county grand jury urged Governor Small to discharge Will Colvin from the state board of pardons and paroles after a three week inquiry into Joliet prison conditions. The report calls for Warden Whitman to resign and for a disciplinarian deputy warden, abolition of the honor farm, rapid completion of a new prison, and censure of prison management for political involvement.
The Washington chapter of the Izaak Walton League invites the public to a meeting at the Y M C A Thursday at eight o clock. Carl Simon and Paul Huston will speak, William Stewart will read, and a secretary and state convention delegates will be chosen.

Senator George W. Norris of Nebraska appealed to Iowans to restore Col. Smith W. Brookhart to the senate, saying he was ejected illegally. Norris branded Brookhart as a victim of machine bosses who united to destroy his usefulness.
Eighth grade pupils staged Polished Pebbles with Berne Enslin as the star. The audience crowded the school auditorium and praised strong acting especially Berne’s hick youth portrayal. Chorus numbers and dancing were well received under Miss Hay and Miss Cunningham.
An unidentified man attempting to board an eastbound Milwaukee train in Ottumwa was killed when he was thrown under the wheels. Witnesses say a small bundle under his arm hindered him and caused the accident. A second drowning occurred in the head race this afternoon. a 23 year old unidentified black youth, said to be a carnival roustabout, drowned.
