MEET AT BURLINGTON Sheriffs of Several States Will Hold a Meeting

Des Moines reports a remarkable accident reveals that the 1897 Iowa code revision likely shifted presidential electors to congressional districts. State Senator Berry and elections committee members doubt the change was intended and expect a return to the original method. Red Oak notes deposed Villisea school leaders Prof C C Williamson and Miss Stella Wescott have left town. Williamson to pay about 150 dollars to his wife.

Great preparations are under way in Burlington for the eighth annual interstate sheriff convention to be held June 14 and 15, coinciding with the Iowa Bankers association meeting. Hotels will overflow with distinguished guests and the hosting committee aims to provide ample entertainment for the prominent men attending both gatherings.

Peterson appeals 25 year sentence in assault case

Frank Peterson sentenced to twenty five years in state prison for criminally assaulting Mary Black. He has furnished bonds totaling twenty five thousand dollars, and the case will be appealed to the supreme court.

Man Hart, 70, Held After Birmingham Capture

Eldon report says Hart, a supposed cattle buyer, swindled Dunning at least $125 last fall. Hart, 70, was captured last night in Birmingham and brought to town this morning.

Children from New York Juvenile Asylum Arrive for Adoption in Ottumwa

Dr Charles E Bruce superintendent Ebnezer Wright western agent and eleven children five girls six boys arrived by the Burlington in Ottumwa to be placed with local and country families who have applied to the asylum for adoptive homes. The children appeared neat bright and well dressed reflecting good care at their orphan home.

National Holiness Association to Meet in Des Moines

The National Holiness association led by Rev J Fowler and Rev M D Collins will hold its annual business meeting in Des Moines on June 15. The gathering accompanies the Business Camp meeting at Chautauqua Park, Des Moines, and will bring several national leaders to the event.

Eightieth Birthday of Queen Victoria Celebrated Worldwide

New York May 25 The eightieth birthday of Queen Victoria was marked by a world-spanning display of goodwill. In New York the British schools and universities club hosted a fourth annual dinner at Brevoort House with Rear Admiral SampsonGuest of honor and a toast to the queen. A telegram from Governor Roosevelt praised Britain’s wartime friendship with America. In Key West a banquet honored the queen’s birthday hosted by British consul W J H Taylor and Edward Ludlow with officials from army to state level in attendance and toasts.
