Sudan grass offers five key benefits for emergency hay or pasture. High yields reach 5.9 tons per acre from two cuts, with an average of 3.47 tons on average Iowa land over four years. It is easy and cheap to grow by broadcasting and harrowing, and seed costs are low due to strong tillering. Seed this crop from May 10 to July 1 for best results, with May 25 to June 15 being ideal.
