A man in Keota was kicked by a horse and is recovering, receiving only liquids as doctors monitor his condition. He sustained injuries but is reported stable as treatment continues.
Keota resident Jas Stamp suffers a compound fracture from a barnyard kick and will need liquid meals. Burlington Electric Railway and Lighting buys Burlington Gas Light for 200000 and pledges gas prices will not rise. Homeopaths Medical Association of Iowa to hold its thirteenth annual session in Des Moines May 23 and 24 at Kirkwood with meetings at Odd Fellows Hall.
In Harlan on May 23 the search for Frank Richardson continues as the missing man who disappeared suddenly three years before the third of next August is still unaccounted for. In Mt Pleasant on May 23 the war’s strain on the I W U ends as students form a drill company with Captain E R Crawford first lieutenant F D Thorpe and second lieutenant J M Beck leading them.
On May 23 Charles O Berg foreman of the gang building a bridge near Jordan was killed when a derrick collapsed. His spine was dislocated and one leg shattered in the accident.
Des Moines dispatch reports Iowa prohibitionists convene to adopt a platform seeking a constitutional ban on liquor sales and manufacture. Beloit Wisconsin May 23 An announcement from President Eaton outlines next year’s course changes at Beloit College due to staffing strains. Professor C A Bacon will leave astronomy to teach French full time, freeing Professor Pearson to expand German and language offerings while Clement Rood takes astronomy duties and studies at Yerkes Observatory with George Hale.
Culver Military Academy cadets depart Culver Indiana by special train for Terre Haute to serve as escort to Governor Mount at the G A R encampment. The unit includes cavalry detachment infantry battalion and a band with Cadet G N Middendorf as senior captain. Additional cadets from Chicago and Illinois join the parade.
In Big Rapids Michigan on May 23 Erickson and Hoehn, brewery proprietors, pulled the taps and dumped beer into the river to avoid arrest on alleged crookedness. They surrendered the government license and agreed to abandon the trade, with the mortgagee’s rep and the sheriff approving. In Fond du Lac Wisconsin on May 23 Mike Bernez, charged with the March 28 murder of John Blumenroeder, admitted ownership of the hat found in the brush and claimed the coat was his brother’s.
Giles Dickson and Elizabeth McCracken eloped to Louisville on Wednesday and were married. Dickson plans to study at a Cincinnati medical college while Miss McCracken visited Indianapolis. They are now staying at the Hotel English in Indianapolis after the ceremony. Dickson is the son of Mr and Mrs Myron Dickson and his bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs C A McCracken.
Chicago reports yesterday's results with multiple intercity games. Pittsburg beat Baltimore 9 to 4, Cleveland defeated Washington 14 to 3, Chicago toppled Philadelphia 6 to 4, Louisville beat Brooklyn 5 to 2, Cincinnati beat New York 5 to 0, St Louis won over Boston 10 to 3, and Western League games saw Milwaukee over Indianapolis 4 to 1, Minneapolis over Buffalo 5 to 3, and Kansas City over Detroit 2 to 1.
Five masked men entered the Watertown Table Slide company factory near the Milwaukee railroad station shortly before midnight. They bound and gagged night watchman John Bliese at gunpoint, battered the safe, used three charges of powder, and stole fifteen dollars in change and about five hundred dollars in negotiable paper.

It envisages a general advisory council, civil and military coordination, and a system resembling Cuba with U S sovereignty and eventual home rule under Congress approval.

Waukau farmer Sarles dislocates jaw while handling herd and needs physician help. William Passmore shoots at players after a rush in Chicago football game, hitting Michael Woods in the leg.
Minneapolis May 28 The Presbyterian general assembly heard Rev W H Franklin of Rogerville Tennessee defend colored members amid reports of southern outrages. The freedmen fund nears 40 000 while some presbyteries are asked to contribute large sums and debate over lynch law is noted. In Richmond Virginia v Southern Bell the Supreme Court ruled against locating poles in streets under 1866 act.
