Iowa Bankers Call Postal Savings Drain on Finances
The Iowa Bankers Association announced support from United States Senator Louis Murphy for an amendment to the Glass banking bill to end interest on postal savings. The county superintendent Mrs Winnie Palmer announced prize results for county rural school displays. Grand Prairie school in Jackson township won first for best exhibit taught by Ruth Gideon. Dental Honor Roll Parade Celebrates 1000 Pupils in Rural Washington County
About 650 students from rural and Washington town schools marched downtown at 4 p m led by the high school band. A gray elephant with two Enterprise School girls inside and a clown from the same school headed the procession. Many schools wore headbands and carried placards showing dental health percentages. Nine rural schools are 100 percent, including Eureka Marion Pleasant View Prairie Flower Center Living Lake Pleasant Plain No 4 Washington Center and Harmony Franklin. Roughly 590 rural pupils were eligible but only about 200 attended. 508 Washington town pupils were eligible with about 45 in the parade, totaling around 1000 pupils on the dental honor roll. St James School and junior high also contributed 100 percent.
