Washington County board approves fish release and timber ruling
The Washington County Conservation Board received 600 fingerling catfish for Marr Park confinement. They will be fed daily and released into four county ponds next fall weighing about a half pound. Chairman Harold Hall announced the final acceptance of county attorney Baldrige's ruling that Hayes Timber walnut trees sale is illegal, clarifying the will interpretation "as far as practicable" and settling the matter.

Des Moines Man Captured After Pleasant Hill Bank Hold Up
Phillip Carnes 45, a parolee serving 25 years for aggravated robbery who escaped from an Iowa City hospital, was captured at a roadblock west of Burlington with Joe Winders 30 and his wife Marie 40 both of West Burlington. Carnes faces federal charges and bond set at 150000 with later court appearances planned. The Winders were charged with aiding a fugitive and were to be arraigned in Municipal Court.

Washington plans summer Creative Arts Program
A community driven Creative Arts Program is planned for this summer in Sunset Park. Two Washington college students Richard Choate and Miriam Jones will lead a 12 week program starting June 12 with daytime activities for youth and an evening program featuring two productions Midsummer Night's Dream and a probable August street festival. Volunteers and donations are sought to fund the project with schedules including two daytime sessions weekly and events every night with weekends for rehearsals and workshops. Interested participants may contact committee members or use the coupon on Page 8 of the Evening Journal.

UPI reports Hanoi Radio stating waves of American planes struck Hanoi Thanh Hoa and Bac Giang near the Chinese border. Saigon spokesmen said six bridges around Dong Hoi were destroyed in earlier raids.
