Iowa's 1961 traffic deaths rose to 204 after a spate of injuries and fatalities. Elderly men F. G. Peter and James John Gordon died in Iowa crashes, while two Iowans perished in out-of-state accidents. A premature baby died after a crash that seriously injured the mother.

John Koch aged 78 died suddenly of a heart attack while shopping in a Keota store Wednesday around 4 p m He was born February 14 1883 near Talleyrand and married Essie Grubb They farmed in Washington and Keokuk Counties later living in Ainsworth and Washington before moving to Keota in 1951 Funeral services are set for Saturday at 2 p m at Powell Funeral Home Keota with burial at Elm Grove Cemetery Washington He was a Knights of Pythias member and is survived by his wife three sisters one grandchild two sons and three brothers preceded in death by two sons and three brothers.

Parkview Home Open House Planned in Wayland
Wayland announces an open house at Parkview Home on May 27 and 28 from 1 to 4 pm. The 32 room retirement facility features two two room apartments with connecting doors, a nursing wing with four stations, and a wired nurse call system. The estate includes a front wing business area, large lounge, dining room for 40, and staff facilities, with guest recreation in the basement and a two level left wing for resident nurse. Financing came from a local Mennonite group with six churches as members.

The American Legion Auxiliary plans Poppy Day on May 26 and 27 to honor more than 500 000 war dead and nearly a million wounded from World Wars and Korea. Benefits to Iowa Disabled Are Cut
Iowa will cut aid to the disabled by 30 percent starting June 1 as medical services and drugs through the state plan end. About 31 percent have other income. many may limit reductions by applying other income. The average monthly payment will fall to about $65 from $97.68. The cut stems from limited funds for the fiscal year and will persist beyond June 30. Federal matching funds drop from $46.13 to $44.46 per recipient July 1. Case load has risen sharply, but officials expect a slowdown and a cap around 900. The 1961 legislature increased annual funding to $168,000 for two years.

Ronald Kaufman Injured in Yard Accident
Ronald Kaufman suffered head injuries in a railroad yard accident while helping unload a freight car at a lumber yard. He was knocked from a ramp onto railroad tracks and struck his head on a rail. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Kaufman of route four Washington and is being treated at University Hospital in Iowa City. No visitors are allowed.
