University of Iowa professor Richard R. Whipple resigns from the engineering college to join a Chicago firm as a designer of illuminating engines. In Charles City, Mrs Roe Asting of Marble Rock sees a moth in her home and falls, breaking her wrist.
Davenport notes Miss Alice McBride supervisor of music at Clinton public school wrote the operetta You'll Find Romance. A student cast at St. Ambrose college will present the premiere Tuesday night.
Reverends H. D. Temple of Dubuque and W. G. Crowder of Cedar Falls will address services here commemorating the founding of the Methodist church seventy years ago.
Humboldt county officials urged beer parlors to refuse sales to men on relief projects. A compiled list will bar those on relief if inspectors find they spend their wages on liquor.
WAVERLY Plainfield high school graduation exercises will be conducted by the senior class. Only senior members will participate. Speeches will be given by Lois Miller Mildred Woodruff and Clifford Headh with the class president delivering remarks.
Former United States Senator L J Dickinson underwent a second corrective operation for an intestinal ailment. His nurse reported he had a comfortable day at George Washington University Hospital in Washington D C.
More than 8,000 visitors packed into Pella for the Tuip Time festival as tulips bloomed along city streets. The event was extended a week due to rain with nearly all tulips in full bloom Sunday signaling a strong turnout.
Herbert Clark a 55 year old Shenandoah contractor fell fifty feet from the attic to the basement in a new residence under construction. He was working with Alva Sanderson who rushed to the cellar but found Clark dead. Clark's wife is a former Page County Republican chairwoman.
Helen Tiernan 28 confesses to police that she killed her eight year old daughter, bludgeoned knifed and burned her on Long Island. Detected after her four year old son whispered his name and described the attack.
A class of five was confirmed Sunday morning at St Pauls Evangelical Church by Rev. Carl W. Klein. Fourteen new members were received, bringing total fellowship to 19, with two confirmed to join St Pauls Valley and others at Washington church. Communion is set for next Sunday at Washington St Pauls church. The church recently remodeled and rededicated two weeks ago.
Kenneth Ruttan of Albia and Robert Grobman of Moline were jailed on charges after a stolen car wreck six miles west of Lowden. Raymond Ruttan, Kenneth’s brother, died from injuries, and Dorothy Durst Adams of Washington recovers from injuries at the county hospital. Police traced the car to a Moline theft and uncovered engine number tampering.
Raymond Albert Ruttan 19 of Albia died at 4 a.m. Sunday at the county hospital from injuries suffered in a collision six miles west of Washington on primary road No 2 Saturday morning. He is survived by his parents G C Thutton and Ana Cooper Ruttan of Albia four sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Albia with burial in Albia cemetery.
Washington county residents may obtain renewal application cards at the sheriff's office for licenses valid from July 1. Cards require typewritten or printed information, black ink signatures, and payment by money order or personal check. Families are encouraged to apply together, and applicants must disclose prior licenses and any denials or legal troubles. False statements may suspend or revoke a license, and no license is issued to anyone under 16.
Sheriff Harold M. Putnam today announced a county list of 174 delinquent automobile owners who registered cars last year but have not licensed them this year. He will mail notices urging payment or the filing of a dismantled or junked affidavit to avoid seizure and sale of vehicles to cover license fees and costs.
Deputy Sheriff Stan Kiesey jailed Kenneth Ruttan of Albia after his brother Raymond Ruttan died from injuries. Kenneth pleaded guilty to reckless driving, fined 50 dollars plus costs, or 30 days in jail if unpaid. The collision with B M Gibbs of Princeton Illinois occurred six miles west of Washington. Dorothy Durst Adams of Washington, a hitchhiker, was injured.
Harold M. Putnam heads to Idaho Falls to fetch Dale Kerr of Washington who must answer a forgery charge in Washington county court. Kerr allegedly forged a 125.58 check on Farmers Bank of Kalona signed Raysojka and cashed it at Wellman bank before fleeing toward Twin Falls. Sheriff expected return later this week.
The two cars involved in the crash were identical 1937 Plymouths of the same model and color. Both vehicles bore Klimois license plates, suggesting a matched pair in the collision.
The United States bans the New York to Paris air race planned for the Paris exposition, refusing licenses and vowing no future stunt flights. Col. J K Johnson says no permits will be granted as government aims to end such races. France hints it may move the Lindbergh event to another country if Washington stands firm.

Practice for the Washington high school senior class play A Full House continues under Miss Opal Keeney. May 27 and 28 showings planned with posters by Anna Plummer in Westphals store windows. The three act farce features a large cast including Parks Eckels Howell Mrs Pembroke Lola Sartor Tom Gray and others.
Cap Harvey and Rude Warfel celebrate forty three years as Washington partners. Starting with Cap in 1891 then joining with Warfel in 1894, they ran the Congress hotel and cafe near the Bailey building since 1911, moving after a fire five years ago.
The State Theatre launches a four day stretch featuring Wake Up and Live with Walter Winchell and Ben Bernie as a top attraction. The program also includes a dramatic Hindenburg disaster sequence and a Kentucky Derby show starring War Admiral, with praise for cast members and a buzz of record attendance.
Ward reports the death of William Crawford age 80 near Jesup Iowa where he lived with sons Roy and Clarence on a farm. He was formerly of Washington and brother to J. O. Crawford with an aunt relation to Mrs. A. W. Yard. His wife Mary Wilcox preceded him seven years ago. Survived by two sons and a brother, his daughter Maude Turner is deceased.
Donald Hartzell of Riverside was fined ten dollars and costs by Justice J. E. Bovee for reckless driving after pleading guilty. He was arrested by State Patrolman James Gildroy of Iowa City at the intersection of primary roads No. 22 and 161 near Riverside.
The note indicates someone aged about fifteen or sixteen years ago and now living near Waterloo. burial or funeral arrangements have not been disclosed.

Roy Potterff of Birmingham Iowa received a broken leg and a mashed toe after he stood up on the tira whirl and was thrown from the ride Saturday evening at the carnival grounds. He was hospitalized and later returned home by ambulance as the carnival company agreed to cover medical bills.
Sheriff W. W. Christian investigates the death of Floyd M. Derrick a transient found in a freight car near Louden Sunday afternoon in Tipton Iowa.
Mrs W W C Huston a longtime resident of this community died at her home near Wyman Saturday after a week of pneumonia. Born near Crawfordsville April 28 1859 Belle Gordon married to W C Huston in 1880 she leaves husband four sons Ray Guy Marion and Paul all in the community four grandchildren two sisters Miss Adda McFarland and Mrs Waldo Wells and one brother R A Gordon of Crawfordsville Funeral services were held at 2 30 this afternoon at the Methodist church in Winfield where she had long been a member.
Washington Iowa residents filed 36 more income tax returns in the latest year. A total of 236 persons paid income taxes, up from 200 persons in 1935 according to a report by the Internal Revenue Bureau.
