Master Corn and Soybean Contests Planned by Iowa Group
Local farmers are invited to join the Master Corn and Soybean Growers Contest for 1963 sponsored by the Iowa Crop Improvement Association. Awards go to the highest yielding corn per acre in the state, with certificates for entrants producing 150 bushels or more and medals for those of 100 or more. Goode Fertilizer of Fairfield backs the locally sponsored event and plans a banquet for sponsored entrants and their wives. Last year’s winner John Middlekoop Jr. of Batavia set a state record 170.70 bushels per acre. Camporee notes: Boy Scouts from Troop 241 in Washington join about 350 youths at the pioneer camporee at English Valley Archery Course near South English with Scouts from the Wauhawk district participating.
