Start Preliminary Plans To Observe Memorial Day
Washington's Memorial day program two weeks from today will follow last year's form with a downtown opening band, a parade from the square to cemeteries at ten o'clock, and programs at Woodlawn and Elm Grove for grave decoration. The planning meeting in the city hall Legion rooms formed the Memorial Day General committee and a coordinating parade and cemetery program. The committee named Kenneth Carris to arrange cemetery programs, S. W. Easter to head the parade, and various groups to decorate graves and participate in children's activities. Officials discussed church services May 26 and school visits to explain Memorial Day significance. The presence of Civil War survivor Luck Sigafoose was hoped for.

Muscatine Car Located in Sigourney After Fraud Case

At Stewart school 268 pupils planted shrubs as part of a landscaping project. Students saved pennies in a jar to fund the shrubs, with each grade group taking turns aiding planting and speeches from student representatives. Centennial Building Sold to Wrecking Concern for 405
The Washington board of education received bids for four old grade school properties but only the Centennial building sold. Geerdes Wrecking company of Lincoln, Nebraska bid 405 dollars for the building, while others failed to meet appraised values. Officials plan a new appraisal and consider selling the lots after removal of the buildings.

Automobile Hits Cow Wrecks Car Near Palmer Place
Keith Laneial, 16, of East Moline IL, drove his father's car with Jules Laneial and his wife as passengers when it struck a Palmer dairy cow on No 92 east of town. The cow was injured but not seriously. Mrs Laneial suffered a knee cut. The car sustained radiator damage.
