District Judge A B Lovejoy awarded Mrs Catherine Brown of Waterloo a 1939 Chevrolet seized after police arrested her husband Charles Brown for transporting liquor illegally. The car was registered in her name and contained 56 quarts of whiskey.

Dairy spokesmen in Des Moines condemn a pamphlet from Iowa State College publish ed by economists at Ames campus claiming oleo margarine compares favorably with butter. They demand withdrawal, repudiation by the college, and dismissal of the author and the four member faculty editorial committee.
Kenneth Huffman twenty of Shannon City Iowa attempted suicide by shooting himself Thursday as Ringgold County Sheriff Homer Todd searched for him at the request of the army. The incident occurred at a farm near Shannon City. Huffman, absent without leave from Camp Wolters Texas, was taken to Creston hospital in critical condition.
A soybean processing plant will be added to Muscatine industries soon announces by 35 G. Stein. Stein and G. A. Went, both Muscatine residents, are incorporators of the Muscatine Processing Co.
DES MOINES The season on several fish varieties opens today at dawn in Iowa. Anglers may catch northern pike sand pike sauger pike wall-eyed pike yellow perch yellow bass striped bass and silver bass. Bullheads can be caught without a season limit and catfish from May 1 to May 30 in inland streams with lakes open July 1 to Nov 30. Large and small mouth bass crappies calico bass warmouth bass rock bass sun fish and bluegills open June 15.
Iowa land values climbed over the past year with the March 1 1943 index at 87 percent of the 1912-14 base, the highest since 1931, while farm income and foreclosed-property declines push supply tighter. Grain prices in April 1944 rose despite declines in logs calves and eggs, with cattle and milk prices hitting record highs. Storage capacity at commercial grain facilities stood at 69.7 million bushels with additional sack and bulk capacities noted.
