An exhibit at Lincoln School featured pupil and teacher work from two to four yesterday. In the kindergarten Miss Mary Welch’s room offered a dry goods store and a toy shop table. First through fifth grades displayed memory work, poems, language booklets, stories, drawings, penmanship, and paper dolls designed by Miss Corrinne Powell, Miss Sylvia Warren, Miss Gertrude Kendall, and Mrs. George Pauls guided classes.
Rev. A. J. Unthank pastor of Prairie Flower Baptist Church eight miles northwest of town will move with his family to Davenport next Monday. He will return Sundays to fill the Prairie Flower pulpit until mid June when he completes four years here. Ralph Unthank will remain to finish the local high school year. The congregation recently completed a modern church edifice and dedicated it two weeks ago.
Agent H W Russell of the Rock Island states a new passenger timetable for the Knoxville branch takes effect next Monday. No 429 departs west at 9 30 after a ten minute delay. No 449 Firefly westbound departs 6 25. eastbound Firefly arrives 5 05 and will wait for No 30 from Kansas City before continuing. No other local time changes announced.
Warsaw observers report a mass funeral for hundreds killed in the Polish revolt led by Marshal Joseph Pilsudski. Miss Helen Bridge oversees wounded care as utilities function while transit cars await street repairs amid ongoing fighting and a rumored government resignation.
The Norge led by Roald Amundsen arrived at Teller Alaska at 2 a m Eastern Standard Time completing a Spitzbergen to Alaska voyage over the North Pole. Naval radio monitored contact with Nome. authorities report crew safe and well. Teller, a trading post of about 200 residents on Port Clarence Harbor, is near Nome and hosts Teller Mission and reindeer operations.
The indoor YMCA circus drew fewer crowds than hoped yet proved a solid success. Secretary Harry Kreider and Physical Director Elwood Detrick credited Miss Florence Cunningham Mrs Willa Freshwaters and Guy Carlton for training high school and junior high groups.
Washington May 15 The Haugen farm relief bill reads for amendment as the house resumes work Tuesday on surplus crop issues. Tincher and Curtis-Aswell proposals face votes by Thursday or Friday amid efforts to link factions and defeat Haugen in favor of a compromise.
Mr and Mrs J J Cupp and their son from Keota are seen shopping in Washington today as part of a local trip.
Mrs Will Stockman died at a hospital from injuries sustained in a runaway incident. The funeral will be held Sunday. Dr C A Boice and fellow physicians from Washington County attended a large Iowa State Medical Society convention in Des Moines where Boice won a prize for a pioneer medical display.
In Geneva on May 15 Spain warned the League reform commission that without a permanent council seat it may abandon cooperation, a threat that unsettled talks. Germany opposed permanent seats, offering to expand non permanent ones, while Argentina blocked Brazil’s bid for a permanent seat. France and Italy supported broader non permanent Latin American representation.
Mrs. W F Stockman age 47 mother of thirteen died from a brain concussion after a buggy overturned near West Chester while en route to a school picnic. Her husband and many children survive. funeral at West Chester Methodist church conducted by Rev P B Gray with interment at Brighton Cemetery.
A motorist described as erratic passed through Plymouth Wisconsin with a carload of boxes that looked like liquor but contained dynamite. Sheriff Case found the driver Michael Wand 26 Cascade Wisconsin asleep nearby and locked him up after determining the load held more than 100 pounds of explosive threatening the village.
Dr. M. J. Kenefick of Algona was selected president elect of the Iowa State Medical Society by the house of delegates, to serve in 1928. He defeated Dr. T A McManus of Waterloo and Dr. Charles H Magee of Burlington. The next convention will meet in Council Bluffs. Dr. Merrill M Meyers was elected president of the Iowa Heart Association.
Washington May 15. Weather outlook for the week beginning Monday shows a period of scattered thunderstorms and thundershowers in the upper Mississippi and lower Missouri Valleys. Temperatures are expected to run mostly above normal in the latter half of the week.
