11th Nuclear Test in Pacific Series
The United States detonated its 11th explosion in the Pacific test series, dropping an intermediate yield device from an aircraft near Christmas Island at about 11:30 a.m. EDT. The AEC reported the blast, noting the typical intermediate yield of around 100,000 tons of TNT. Most tests have occurred near Christmas Island, with prior tests including underwater and submarine-fired missiles.

Charley Marek aged 76 died at 5 o clock this morning at Washington County Hospital where he had been a patient since Friday. Funeral arrangements are pending but services will be at Powell Funeral Home Wellman with burial in the local cemetery. He was born January 25, 1886 west of Kalona, a son of Frank and Anna Marek.
