IOWA CITY residents report a mishap as Harry Weinberg of Deerfield Wisconsin overturned a trailer truck on a hill. Cracked eggs totaled 76 600 in the cargo yard.
Fishermen in the Okoboji lake region will compete Sunday in the first Okoboji Lakes Commercial club fish contest. The club will award prizes for the best catches.
Council Bluffs Minneola Hastings and Silver City, towns under 500 population, will receive dial telephone systems by November. H L Dowd district manager for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co announced the plan.
Cedar Falls police arrested two Waterlo men after morphine tablets were found concealed in a flashlight in their car. Officers stopped them for suspected intoxication and notified federal authorities.
The United States Navy Band will perform in Estherville on October 20 after a stop in Batherville October 19. The event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Estherville coordinating council.
John A. Crummer, 89, longtime public servant in Pocahontas Iowa, died here. He served in the Iowa house from 1908 to 1910, was Pocahontas county sheriff for eight years, and for the past twenty years held the position of justice of the peace.
Maquoketa youth Arnoid Harrington, 16, ran away to go west. Deputy Harry Grell of Moline picked him up at the authorities’ request. Harrington surrendered seven revolvers he carried in pockets, a satchel, and a suitcase.
Des Moines police court records show Marie Fern tore up a $5 double parking summons issued by Patrolman Joe Brindley and tossed the fragments at him after admitting the act in municipal court.
President Roosevelt will host Senator Bob LaFollette as a principal guest during his weekend cruise. LaFollette and his brother Governor Phil LaFollette of Wisconsin have recently announced the formation of a third party.
United Automobile Workers leaders from Bay City Pontiac and Toledo threaten a sit down to force immediate authorization of a strike against General Motors at Flint. A union spokesman says grevances will be settled by arbitration.

Chicago May 14 INS doctors who have observed infant Helaine Colan will meet next Thursday to pool findings and determine the chances for life and partial sight.
Plans for the annual Memorial Sunday service set for May 29 at the Methodist church with Dr. Arthur Atack delivering the sermon. The service replaces the traditional afternoon observance and is sponsored by the G A R and the Women's Relief Corps. Community groups including the W R C and Legion are invited to attend. Kenneth Carris, general chairman, announces the plans for Washington’s Memorial day observance.
Jesse Phillips Robertson entertained a Washington audience at the United Presbyterian Church yesterday evening. He performed old Syria and Palestine songs with replicas of ancient instruments like the psaltery and lyre, wearing period costume and narrating life in biblical times. A voluntary offering was taken to cover his expenses.
P Lapham Charles City schools head announces state headquarters in Des Moines Shops building to campaign for Republican nomination for state superintendent of public instruction. Des Moines attorney Peter Janss and Young Republican Milderad Jensen lead the HQ as Lapham outlines a three week tour with speeches May 18 in Rock Falls May 19 in Renwick and May 20 in Mitchell. He has long served as superintendent at Charles City and held roles with Iowa teachers and high school organizations.
The British steamer Great End, about 1 500 tons with Newcastle registry, burned and slowly sank in Valencia harbor after a nighttime air raid. The attack followed three days of British protests to General Francisco Franco over similar strikes on ships in Valencia.
Washington reports say American officers are concerned but not worried by Mexico severing diplomatic ties with Great Britain. The United States anticipates no armed conflict and expects the action to reflect Mexican sensitivities after harsh notes from Britain.

Berlin May 14. Baron Gottfried von Cramm tennis player was convicted of immorality and sentenced to one year in jail. The trial was secret at Moabit with no witnesses and no press present. Two months already served were credited to the sentence.
