Samuel Sedeno’s profile is reported in good shape after a bartender bit off his nose Saturday night. Patrolmen John Bird and Martin Roddy found the missing nose piece under a juke box. Doctors say it was reattached and beginning to regrow.
London AP reports Winston Churchill won Labor party support for a conference of world leaders on East West issues. Attlee urged Eisenhower enter with full authority, warned against repudiation by Congress, and urged closer British Soviet ties to ease Western suspicions.
Iowa Attorney General Leo Hoegh ordered nine firms to stop distributing trade stamps used for premiums or refunds. He said the practice fosters merchant price fixing and gave until June 8 to liquidate Iowa operations. Two Iowa firms were named among those halted and seven others listed from across the nation.
Norman Schoonover assumed control of Lemmon Pharmacy in Washington, renaming the business Schoonover Drug. The former owner J E Lemmon neared 54 years in the corner drug store, with a grand opening planned later. Mrs Boyd Crandall became the first woman employee in the building in nearly 54 years, as Schoonover and Bob Wallace join to run the store.
Wayne Limerman, general chairman of the 1953 Memorial day observance, announced a meeting for representatives of all patriotic organizations Wednesday at 7:50 PM in the region rooms of city hall. Attending groups include Woman's Relief Corps, Daughter of Union Veterans, Daughters of American Revolution, American Legion and Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary, Marine Corps league, Sailor Groups, and the 408th Ordnance company.
In New Britain Connecticut an 18 month old named Dennis Dominico was revived from 20 minutes of non breathing after touching an electric toaster. Doctor Bernard C Peck aided resuscitation en route to New Britain General Hospital and a surgeon later restarted the heart. The child was placed in a coma but remained in critical condition.
Washington county faces ongoing damage from clover leaf weevils and pea aphids. County extension director Tom Robb urges farmers to inspect clover fields and monitor for damage. He says pests remain high, though cold weather may slow aphids. DDT spraying can control them.
A 15-year-old Cresco youth believed to have stolen as many as 12 cars earlier walked away from the county jail and sparked a Midwest car tour. Police recovered two vehicles and tracked a third stolen car across Mandan and Wilton, while a 1941 Mercury coupe with plate 151-135 was also reported missing.
Washington YMCA to sponsor a camp session at the Youth Center site on Lake Darling this summer. The local Y will not sponsor a group at Camp Arrowhead. Dates to be set for late July or early August. Boys nine years old or over may attend.

Democrats condemned Defense Secretary Wilson's plan to reduce Air Force expansion and overall armed forces manpower, calling it a risky national security gamble. The plan targets a 5.6 fold drop in draft quotas, a 291000 manpower cut, and 120 Air Force wings instead of 143, with questions from lawmakers at a House subcommittee hearing.
Mose Levy died at his Kalona home after a month long illness. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beckman funeral home Iowa City with burial in the Jewish cemetery there. Levy born November 14 1886 in Poland came to the U S in 1904 lived in Washington county 33 years and ran junk businesses in Kalona and later Washington. He married Lillie R Etenson in 1914 in Brooklyn. Survived by wife three sons Joe at home Harry and Martin of Washington one daughter Mrs Joe Mintzes of Arlington Va two sisters in Pennsylvania one brother in New York three grandchildren and one son Myron deceased. Peterseim Sons Kalona in charge of arrangements.
Ainsworth youths lead the Sunday evening meeting at the Methodist church on May 17 at 7 o'clock. Leaders include George Stout Sandra Ornduff Jarol Ornduff with Mrs Helen McCreedy serving as sponsor.
L. Cloud Willits, notable Washington businessman and civic leader, is named recipient of the Rotary Community Service plaque for 1952. Presentation occurred in Iowa City during the club's annual trip to the University theater, with judges from local service clubs selecting him for broad community involvement.
Bruce Walker a 22 year old former deputy county clerk of courts resigned April 1 and was charged with embezzling 1816 dollars from the clerk's office over two and a half years He was arraigned held on 2500 bond and a Friday district court hearing was set He admitted taking 258 81 in 1951 1875 57 in 1952 and 181 76 this year and said illness prompted his resignation

The West Chester preschool health examination will be held in the West Chester High School gym Wednesday afternoon May 13 from 1 to 3 oclock. A rebuilt Benner Food Store opens at 10 a.m. Wednesday May 13 showcasing new equipment and décor including a self service meat counter the first of its kind in Washington. Nine employees remain and Wayne Mosier will manage until Marvin Carter returns from army school at Fort Bliss Texas.
Rescue crews comb wrecked buildings after a powerful Texas tornado. At least 67 bodies found in Waco and San Angelo, with hundreds injured. Officials estimate up to 150 dead. widespread destruction includes homes, stores, and a pool hall. Red Cross reports hundreds of homes damaged and looting concerns noted.
